The Whisky Jury South Pacific SPD 2001

Wow, tolle Auswahl! Voll von Estern, Früchten, leichten Gewürzen und einer überraschenden Vanille-Sanftheit. Der trockene Abgang bleibt lange im Gedächtnis und produziert zusätzlichen Speichel, der die Ester für ein letztes Lebewohl zurückbringt. Der Alkohol ist gut integriert, was für ein Orchester von Aromen. Erste Sahne!

Whiskyjury. Another quality bottler from Belgium. Banana smell enters the nose only seconds after pouring. Huray. N: lots of tropical/yellow fruits. Balance. Bit of rubber. Very small amount of smoke. Funk. Ester etc. Typical Fijian. T: creamy and dry. Yasmine tea. Again the tropical fruit. Baked banana. Flowery. Something musty. Very very good. Lots of flavours. Great balance. A bit hot. I Don't get the smokiness in the flavour. But I do get a bit of malt/whisky. One of the best Fijis I had.

This is my first time trying a Fiji 2001 and I'm really enjoying it. The nose is fruity, smoky and full of esters. On the palate I'm getting less fruit and more spicy notes. The finish is dry, bitter and lingers for a while.

Fiji 2001 Community Tasting - big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprise. For me, the two Artesanal rums, neither of which I drank to the end, brought up the rear. An unpleasant juniper off-note was particularly disturbing (very pronounced in the rx15398, slightly better but still disturbing in the rx7779). Then, for me, the Rum Cask rx479 brought up the rear (i.e. very good / with the right markers), but not as great as the others. Surprisingly, the Isla del Ron, which has had a small reference status in my heart ever since I tried it, ended up in next place for me. But it was overtaken in the blind test by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational. cave Guildive (rx1717). For me, the Cave Guildive is the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I only rated the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) higher ... this one is clearly woodier but also ultra-tasty. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably also stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Verdict: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody. the Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the two that remain far below the level of the other two.

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: As opener of the line-up this one was very nice right from the start. Well balanced and reasonably complex representation of the vintage with all you can hope for. In the end this one placed in the middle of the pack. Side-by-side it lacks a bit of punch and excitement compared to others in the line-up. But make no mistake: this is very good in its own right. Cheers to Jakob!

Danke Jakob in den Genuss gekommen, ein breites Spektrum von den Fiji 2001 Abfüllungen probieren zu können. Obwohl ich vorher schon einige im Glas hatte, hat mich das Ergebnis doch wieder verwundert, da mein vorheriger Favorit auf dem letzten Platz gelandet ist. Wobei man dazu sagen muss, dass ich auf Grund eines Zeitproblems den meisten keine Zeit zum entwickeln gegeben habe. Deshalb hier das Ergebnis vom Blindtasting, dass von der Bepunktung abweicht.

RumX Fiji Crosstasting April 2024 Place 7/8 Still a solid Fiji 2001, which may not keep up with the top 2001s. However, the quality level of all samples is very high. Overall somewhat flat.

Beautiful, archetypal 2001 Fiji, which comes along on the rather balanced track. The typical intensity is recognizable, but remains rather restrained overall. A successful release at a high level.

Typical Fiji profile. Fruity, honey, some caroni dirtiness. Delicious on the palate, balanced and yet with power.

Crosstasting mit Jakob und einigen Forummitgliedern am 25.4.2024. Platz 7. Alle Fiji Rum waren super. Überraschend dass dieser hier im Blind tasting nicht so hoch kam wie die durchschnittsbewertung. ..

RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. A nose with varnish, yellow fruit and in particular apple, vegetal and like old hemp rope. On the palate, pastry, yellow fruit and hemp rope. Roasted/grilled. The finish is rather short, the aromas disappearing quickly with a not very pleasant acqueous side. Apple and oak remain at the very end. A pleasant rum, not overpowering, but with no flaws or rough edges, making it consistent and easy to drink. For my taste, it's a little boring, too much in the background. Everything is coherent here, nose, finish and empty glass, a real plus for a very well-made rum.

RumX Community Cross-Tasting „Fiji 2001“ (by Jakob): Nase fruchtig und etwas dreckig, mit Lösungsmittel und Gummi. Am Gaumen ergänzt durch Süsse, Kräuter und Würze. Leichte minzige Note. OK, geht aber noch besser.

Gute Nase Leim, Banane, gewürze, Im Gaumen, etwas scharf, Zitrusfrüchte, weniger Leim, Baumnuss, metalisch, Alkohol könnte besser eingebunden sein
