Dead Reckoning Rum South Pacific Dead Reckoning Rum Moscatel Cask 2022

First of all: make pinewood a tasting note! There's lots of it in the nose. Okay let's see. A 40 year old moscatel cask. Probably full of moscatel drab. Nice. Very noticable. It sort of dampens the funk, but to a nice effect. It's unique. Again the pinewood in taste. Conifere bushes. Red fruits, thick tannic wood/madeira/port and yes moscatel. Heavy! Spicy! We know Fiji makes a powerful spirit but this cask is winning, although it makes a great rum along the way. You gotta love wood though. All the wood. Not you average Fiji but very interesting with bold flavours.

First try of a Fijian rum. Really tasty rum. It is smooth and quaffable. On the nose there are lots of drier fruits, raisins, cherries, coconuts. On the plate there is an initial gentle sweetness (caramel) which is then well balanced with woody and coffee notes. Great quality rum.

Rumfest 2023 tasting so notes were brief

#4257 16.09.2023 Whisky N Rum Show 2023. Das Preisleistungsverhältnis ist meiner Meinung nach ziemlich gut. Ein frischer und fruchtiger Rum mit schönen Gewürzen und geröstetem Holz. Am Gaumen warm und ölig mit einem mittleren bis langen Abgang. Ich mag die blumigen Noten sehr, da sie das Gesamtprofil vervollständigen. Das leere Glas hatte eine leicht nussige Note.

Ein Fidschi-Rum, der stark von den alten Muscat-Fässern beeinflusst ist. Die Nase bietet eine Vielzahl von exotischen Früchten (Banane, Ananas, Mango), gefolgt von leichtem Holz, einigen Estern, Gewürzen und einer Süße von Vanille und Karamell. Der Auftakt im Mund ist sehr rund. Der Rum ist fett, ölig und sehr likörartig. Das Muscat-Fass hebt die Tannine, den Alkohol und den Zucker hervor. Diese dominante weinige Seite überschattet de facto die exotischen Früchte, die im Schatten lauern.Der recht lange Abgang kehrt zu den Estern, den Tanninen und seinen Holznoten, den Chili- und Karamellnoten zurück. Die tropischen Früchte und Trockenfrüchte treten in den Hintergrund.Ein äußerst süßer und süffiger Rum, der ein Portal sein kann, um den Menschen zu ermöglichen, neue Geschmäcker in der Welt des Rums zu entdecken.

Sehr interessanter Fiji rum, bei dem fass Finish sehr gut passt. Vollreife Ananas, verbranntes Gummi und Kräuter treffen mit Piment und Muskat aufeinander. Aromatisch sehr rund und harmonisch ohne zu dünn zu sein mit einer angenehmen Süße und Säure und leichten Tanninen im Abgang.

Quite a strong cup of coffee for me. But definitely appreciate this taste combo. I feel earth-herbs-flowers

Not quite round, a little young, but great vanilla and honey on the finish.

It was ok but also felt diluted. This with 55% or more would be a gem.

Rum Convent Flensburg 19.05.2023

A very easy drinking Fiji rum. The ABV makes is approachable but a bit flat and thin. The nose is vanilla, pineapple and some floral notes. The mouth was allspice and candied fruit, vanilla and some light esters. Finish is woody, with herbal and spicy notes as well as caramel. Had better from the distillery but a solid middle of the road rum and cask influence a bit unusual

Omg, I dont know if it is good or bad! First taste is like good guayana - leather wood caramel. And suddenly come pines ginger. And then both tastes start to switch in mouth.

Weird and industrial.
