Today you can buy anything: dry or sweet, aged or unaged, single cask or blend, from Jamaica, Martinique, or Guyana. But that's exactly the problem: Too much choice, too little truth.

RumX: Your compass through the rum world.
How it all began...
Where should I start? Which rum do I like and where can I find like-minded people? Like every rookie, our founder Oliver Gerhardt faced this mystery when he embarked on his rum journey. Combining his two greatest passions, software development and rum, he spent every spare minute in early 2018, alongside his computer science studies, programming a small rum database where he could record his tasting notes and digitize his growing rum collection. Over time, the idea grew to open up this still self-contained world and create an app for rum enthusiasts where tasting impressions could be shared, favorite rums could be found, and recommendations could be exchanged. With the official release of the iOS app on December 16, 2018, the time had come: Rum Tasting Notes saw the light of the rum world!
The rebranding to RumX in summer 2021 then laid the foundation for a real platform with an additional Android app, website, and community forum: RumX as we know it today!
Through hard work, we were able to secure our first funding in 2023 from the start-up accelerator Sandbox. The crowning glory came in 2024 with the nomination for THE Länd’s prestigious NXTGN start-up funding program and the trust placed in us by the state of Baden-Württemberg!
A small database develops into the world's largest review portal
The very first rum in the database was Plantation XO with the iconic number RX1. After 25,000 rums, we stopped counting. This vibrant rum source has grown thanks to a passionate community of over 52,000 members. A big thank you goes out to everyone who has helped and continues to help add new rums and fill in missing information. RumX wouldn’t be possible without you! ❤️

To do this, we link over 6,000 offers from partner shops across Europe, such as Rum & Co, Spirit Academy and Excellence Rhum, so you can now buy your favorite rum safely and conveniently directly on RumX. On top of that, you’ll receive personalized recommendations and 7-day customer service. But that’s not all: for hunters of rare collector’s rums, we also list current rum auctions from the most exciting auction houses. When you buy a rum through our marketplace, the partner shop pays us a small commission. The price you pay stays exactly the same. Just as important: our ratings come from the community, not from us or the shops. That’s why no shop has any influence on scores or rankings. This is how we fund the platform, app, and community without you paying a cent more.Our own rum: Savanna × RumX
In April 2026 we released our first own bottling together with the Savanna distillery (Réunion Island): a Grand Arôme single cask, tropically aged for 17 years, limited to 445 bottles, now sold out. The community rates it 9.1/10, placing it in the top 2% of all rums on RumX. A distillery doesn’t entrust a cask like this to just anyone: this bottle exists because Savanna saw what our community knows about rum. The story behind the bottle →
