Maison Ferrand

Maison Ferrand is a Charente cognac house that turned its cellar expertise toward rum, first under the Plantation name and now rebranded as Planteray. The approach is distinctive: rums sourced across the Caribbean and the Pacific are shipped to France, then given a second maturation in ex-cognac casks — the “double ageing” that defines much of the core range. Master blender Alexandre Gabriel built the house around accessibility and consistency rather than raw cask strength.

That approach splits the community. The entry blends draw praise for value and smoothness but regular criticism for added sugar and a soft, dessert-like profile. The one-off single casks — aged Trinidad TDL, Jamaican marques — land very differently, and often win over the people who find the core line too tame.
