Braud & Quennesson traces back to the old Marin sugar estate founded in 1866. After decades of silence, the family relaunched the project in 2018 and opened the Habitation Grand Fonds at the end of 2022, a site marked by an avenue of royal palms and a clear premium ambition. Some 30 hectares of high-Brix cane (around 23 Brix) feed the operation, with distillation carried out at Le Simon for traceability and AOC compliance, before resting, aging and bottling on the estate.

The catalogue is still young and mostly white. The core Rhum Blanc Agricole comes in several strengths, from around 50 to 59 percent, and reviewers tend to score the more potent versions higher because the alcohol is better woven in. The Parcellaire L319-52 rests eight months in steel tank with micro-aeration, giving a finer, saline, floral white that several members rate among the best of the lot. The Élevé Sous Bois (Signature du Chai) is a short wood-rested rhum, and the Cuvée Transquadra and cigar-friendly Imperium Caraïbes round out the range.

On the nose, expect fresh cane, lime and other citrus, white flowers, green herbs and often a saline or iodine touch. The palate is oily and vegetal, with black pepper, a little licorice and a dry, spicy finish. The wood-rested bottling adds cinnamon, vanilla and toasted sugar, though a few find it too spicy or too young.

The whites are built for ti-punch, and many reviewers make exactly that point, though the higher-proof bottles also reward slow neat sipping.
