El Dorado comes from Demerara Distillers in Guyana, home to a cluster of historic wooden pot and coffey stills, including the Enmore continuous still, the Port Mourant double pot and the Versailles single wooden pot. Those stills are the source of Guyana’s distinctive rum marques, and El Dorado bottles them both as blended age statements and as single-still expressions.

The blended core range is the entry point. The 8 is a sweet, molasses-forward rum that reviewers reach for in a Cuba Libre or rum punch, though several enjoy it neat too. The 12 gets warm words for balance and price, especially the newer unsweetened batch with its coffee and cocoa notes. The 15 and 21 are smoother and more oak-driven, but this is where the community divides: brown sugar, caramel and vanilla please many, while others find them too sweet, too light at 40 to 43 percent, and short on the finish.
