Buy Eminente

Eminente is Moët Hennessy's Cuban premium rum, created by César Martí, the youngest maestro ronero Cuba has ever appointed. Its signature is an unusually high share of aged aguardiente that gives the classically light Cuban style real depth, in a bottle textured like crocodile skin, a nod to the Isla del Cocodrilo.

The RumX Guide to Eminente

What is Eminente, and who owns the brand?

Eminente is the first Cuban rum in the portfolio of Moët Hennessy, the wine and spirits arm of LVMH, launched in France in 2020. It was created by César Martí, who grew up among the sugar cane fields of Villa Clara province and is the youngest maestro ronero Cuba has ever appointed. The rum is distilled and aged at Cuba Ron in central Cuba. The name states the ambition, from the Latin eminere, to stand out. And the bottle tells the brand's second story: its ridged glass recalls crocodile skin, because locals call their island Isla del Cocodrilo, the crocodile island, after its shape on the map.

Carta Oro, Reserva, Gran Reserva: which Eminente is which

The way into the core range is the Carta Oro, aged at least five years in white oak casks that previously held whisky, bottled at 40.3 percent and openly built for the highball. The flagship is the Reserva at seven years and 41.3 percent, the most rated Eminente on RumX with 7.5/10 across more than 370 ratings. The light three-year Ambar Claro is the cocktail Cuban of the range. Above them sit the limited ten-year Gran Reserva vintages, first among them the Edition No. 1 at 8.0/10, and collector pieces like the fourteen-year Signatura Edition Cocodrilo show where the brand is headed.

Aguardiente: why Eminente tastes bolder than other Cubans

Cuban rum is traditionally light, built on a very cleanly distilled column spirit, the style brands like Havana Club made famous. Aguardiente is the counterpart: an aromatically dense distillate of Cuban sugar cane molasses at around 75 percent alcohol, in the style of nineteenth-century Cuban spirits. Eminente flips the usual ratio. The Reserva carries 70 percent aged aguardiente, the highest share among Cuban rums according to the brand, the Carta Oro 45 percent. That is exactly what you taste: the RumX community logs vanilla, wood and caramel most often, followed by chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. Noticeably more body than you expect from a Cuban, without giving up the lightness entirely.

D.O.P. Ron de Cuba: what the seal guarantees

Eminente carries the protected designation of origin, the Denominación de Origen Protegida behind the words Ron de Cuba on the label. It guarantees that molasses from Cuban sugar cane, fermentation, distillation and the entire maturation happen on the island. Ageing takes place in well-used white oak casks, and the tropical climate works faster than any European warehouse: more evaporation, more cask contact, darker colour in less time. The strict rulebook matches what our data shows. All five Eminente bottlings measured on RumX so far, including both Gran Reserva editions, come back unsweetened, while the Reserva and Carta Oro have not been measured yet.

How to drink Eminente

The Reserva is meant as a sipping rum: neat in a tulip glass, give it a few minutes to breathe, and at 41.3 percent it needs neither water nor ice. The Carta Oro is the range's highball rum, cola turns it into a noticeably more grown-up Cuba Libre, soda and lime keep it lighter. For classic Cuban drinks reach for the Ambar Claro: daiquiri, mojito or the canchanchara of rum, lime juice and honey, Cuba's oldest cocktail. Rule of thumb for the whole range: the older the bottling, the more it belongs neat.

Most popular vs highest rated on RumX

The most rated Eminente in the RumX community is the Reserva, the bottle almost everyone starts with, at 7.5/10 across more than 370 ratings. The scores climb with age and strength: both Gran Reserva editions hold 8.0/10, and the cask-strength bottling at 55.5 percent selected with the French community Confrérie du Rhum reaches the same mark. In total the brand holds more than 600 ratings at a median of 7.7/10, a strikingly consistent picture for such a young brand. The ranked list above shows where each bottle lands.

The Eminente lineup compared

Which bottling is the better one is decided neither by price nor by the age on the label. Here they stand side by side, sorted by the community's median rating. The number of ratings sits next to it: a high score from few voices says less than a middling one from many.
