More About Hamilton

Hamilton rum comes from Ed Hamilton, a long-time rum importer and the founder of the Ministry of Rum, who built the line around rums he wanted behind his own bar. Rather than one house style, the range sources from several of the Caribbean’s recognised distilleries and bottles them with the character left intact.

Production is about selection more than secrecy. The Demerara River expressions draw on Guyana stock; the Jamaican Pot Still bottlings are blends of light and heavy pot still rum from Worthy Park; the Saint Lucia Pot Still comes off the Vendome stills at St. Lucia Distillers. The core lineup spans the 86 Demerara River, the 151 overproof (both the Demerara River and the False Idol and Zombie tiki blends), the Jamaican Pot Still Black and Gold, the 87 White Stache, the 114 Navy Strength, and The Breezeway Blend.

On the palate the Demerara side runs to charred pineapple, demerara sugar, tobacco, leather and dark chocolate, with the 151 adding roasted coffee and real heat. The Jamaican Black is all overripe banana, molasses and burnt rubber, big and polarising. The Saint Lucia leans fruity and mineral with that medicinal, nail-polish funk. The white and Breezeway blends are cleaner, banana-and-coconut mixers.
