Rum Artesanal is the independent bottling arm of Heinz Eggert GmbH, a German outfit that buys rare casks from across the rum world and puts them out non-chill-filtered, without added color, usually at cask strength. The range runs from an accessible Core Range spanning Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Venezuela to the Single Cask line that most people here chase: aged bottlings from Hampden, Clarendon, New Yarmouth, Uitvlugt, Enmore, Savanna and closed distilleries.

Rum Artesanal is run by Heinz Eggert GmbH out of Germany, working as an independent rum bottler that sources casks rather than distilling. The house rule is transparency: bottlings go out unchilled with no colorants, so what reaches the glass is meant to reflect the cask and the distillery behind it.

Production is selection rather than blending in the industrial sense, though the brand does both. The Single Cask line is the heart of it, drawing on stocks from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, Reunion, Fiji, Guadeloupe, Australia and Haiti, often at 16, 27 or 40 years and full cask strength. The Core Range is the entry point, easy-drinking bottlings from several producing countries. The Caribbean Island Rum is a characterful blend of Jamaica, rhum agricole and Dominican solera finished nine months in sherry, and it took bronze at the 2019 German Rum Awards.

How the rums taste depends heavily on origin. The Jamaican single casks are the marquee: Hampden HGML brings pineapple, glue and marzipan grown round with age, while Clarendon EMB leans dry, esraty and tropical. New Yarmouth from 1994 shows an unusually low-ester side, all caramel, coconut and baking spice. The Guyana Enmore REV runs to prune, licorice, cedar and dark chocolate; the Port Mourant is herbal, anise and old apple. Trinidad TDL is a menthol-and-peach affair that some mistake for Caroni. The Guadeloupe Bellevue is famously citrus-forward and divisive.
