Based in Cartagena, this is the distillery behind Dictador, the name most people mean when they talk about Colombia rum. Production leans on a mix of column and pot still spirit distilled from sugarcane honey, then aged in the Caribbean heat and finished in ex-bourbon, sherry and port casks. The house style is unmistakable: dark, sweet, and built around roasted coffee, cocoa and walnut.
Across 329 expressions and more than 1,900 community reviews, the rums sit at a median of 7.5/10. Opinion divides sharply on sweetness — several members are convinced the core range is dosed — but the coffee-forward profile has a loyal following, and the Cadenhead’s and CZ/SK independent bottlings score noticeably higher with the purists.
