Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala is the state-linked producer behind two of Central America’s best-known rum names: Ron Zacapa and Botran. Both are built from virgin sugar cane honey rather than molasses, distilled on column stills, then aged high in the Guatemalan mountains — around 2,300 metres — where cooler air slows evaporation. The signature move is the sistema solera, blending rums of different ages together for a soft, dessert-leaning profile.
