Montebello

Carrère-distilled agricole from Basse-Terre, priced for everyday drinking

  • Strong price-to-quality ratio
  • Classic fresh agricole profile
  • Great value white rhums
Loved by Stefan Persson, Vincent D & over 710 more

Montebello is a family-run agricole producer in Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe, with rum distilled at the Carrère distillery in Basse-Terre. The house has built its name less on rare limited editions than on honest, sugarcane-forward rhum sold at prices that regularly surprise people — the 6 ans and the Zenga 60° both get called out for value again and again.

Across 155 expressions and more than 1,500 community reviews, the median sits at 8.0/10. The core range leans young and classic: fresh grass, honeyed cane, anise and pepper. The pricier bottlings — Flora Antillarum, some Velier-finished releases — draw a more divided crowd, several noting that low bottling strength thins out an otherwise complex spirit.

The Montebello lineup compared

Which bottling is the better one is decided neither by price nor by the age on the label. Here they stand side by side, sorted by the community's median rating. The number of ratings sits next to it: a high score from few voices says less than a middling one from many.
