Savanna sits at Bois Rouge on Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, where it distills both molasses-based rum and cane-juice agricole. The distillery has become a favorite among ester hunters for its Grand Arôme and HERR marks — heavily fermented, funky styles that put strawberry, olive brine, pineapple and glue-like solvents in the glass. Alongside those wild expressions it makes gentler Traditionnel rum aged in ex-Cognac and other casks.
