    Fans of Jamaican funk adore this one — hugely estery, fruity and oily. At 65.2% it runs hot and turns dry-tannic late, and it's a small, hard-to-find release.

  3. Best for: Grand Arôme and high-ester funk fans

    Fans of Grand Arôme funk near-unanimously rate this a highlight — loud, complex and cleverly integrated at cask strength. If floral-herbal notes aren't your thing, it may feel busy.

    Most love this single-cask Foursquare for its bourbon-heavy, cherry-and-caramel profile. The catch: at 60.2% the spice and heat can bulldoze the finer notes, and water barely helps.

    A well-liked, resinous Venezuelan — chocolate, blackberry, herbs and pine. Most call it intense and enjoyable; some find it a touch hot and a little less complex than the age suggests.

    Near-universally loved here — a full-proof rum that drinks remarkably rounded for its age, with the heat tucked in tight. If you want funk or Jamaican esters, look elsewhere.
