DDL El Dorado 15
Here's the surprise: for a 15-year Demerara, the sweetness does most of the talking. Brown sugar, caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate up front, with raisin, oak and warm baking spice underneath. Several tasters call it a fine entry into Guyana rum, but plenty wish the added sugar and modest 43% didn't bury such a classic profile. Easy to sip, hard to analyze.
The community says- Silky and smooth
- Caramel-vanilla depth
- But: High sugar content

How does DDL El Dorado 15 taste?
Aggregated from 327 community reviews.
Sweet, caramel-rich Demerara starter sipper Most agree it's a smooth, caramel-heavy gateway to Demerara rum. The recurring gripe: too sweet and under-proofed, with fans noting the older, unsweetened version was better.

Nose is deep and sweet, with brown sugar/caramel notes. The palate is also deep and sweet, with milder warm spices and oakiness. The finish is smooth, caramel-ey and sweet with mild medicinal/herbal notes.

Very pleasantly felt. Nice and smoky but not too spicy. I would recommend it to a guest because it tastes very balanced and delicious.

Sehr extrem, spitze im Geschmack, brennt.

Not as sweet as the 12yo with aromas of caramel, vanilla and fruits. At the palate it’s rather complex and well balanced even if the Demerara sugar dominates. It’s a rum that sets some kind of standard.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
Pretty decent rum that can be used for beginners. Sweet with spices and citrus.
Review by Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪
A fine rum that is appreciated even with the presence of added sugars (without it surely would have taken more). Rich with well-balanced aromas of spice, wood, leather and cigar. Too bad it is too sweet. An easy and pleasant rum to taste.

We go up in range and price but the difference in complexity and especially pleasure is not justified compared to the 12 years, which remains my favorite in the El Dorado range.

Edit: I have to revise my opinion a little. For the price, it can really do something. A great starter in the Guyana world. An underdog for me personally. It lacks a little complexity, but that would be almost impossible given the price. That's why it's been adjusted upwards again. But a really fine sipper without being watered down. I now see it as a good rum for beginners, it has become too sweet for me. But it's definitely suitable for an afternoon sip in the sunshine in the garden.
Review by MarcT
An OK Rum, quite on the sweet side on this earlier version. Can go as a sipper, but is not outstanding.

Review by Martin Spooner
Pleasant smell with light solvents. I find the taste very round and balanced. I enjoy drinking it. However, it could be a little longer in the aftertaste. Good against thirst, I would say.
Review by Rumclub Latvia
Nice sipper when you want regular, available sweet rum.
Review by Anonymous Dee
Beautiful, you open the bottle and the air is filled with molasses rich, balanced velvety smooth Demerara rum lovey hints of chili and rich oak. This one deserves a cigar real value for money. If someone says they don’t drink rum give them a sip and watch them convert.
Review by Joachim Guger
Basically a really nice Demerara flavor profile. It is however completely sunk by massive sugar and limp 43%.Schade ... this profile, no sugar, 60%. Schön wärs...

A powerful and rather well balanced rum. Good product.

Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Strangely never had this one before. Easy sipper but overall quite nice. The caramel thats in the cask (not in the newest versions!) hits in taste and aftertaste especially..although far from Don Papa sweetness. I like this.
Review by abaker-rum
This rum does not have a very complex nose, I only get light caramel and vanilla. The lack of complexity continues in the palate with a short finish. You get molasses and vanilla with wood and spice notes throughout, but they are very subdued. It is an easy rum to drink neat, but doesn’t set itself apart.
Review by Wapiti
A really good and smooth rum. Very balanced. Great nose
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
It's quite ok for the price and it was a nice entry level for me a couple years ago. You get some dried fruit, cherry, toffee, coffee, hint of licorice. The alcohol integration is not great despite a low ABV.
Review by Tom Buteneers
My dad was proud to share his new bottle. Seeing the bottle and box I think it’s the “new version”. It does not taste overly sweet. It’s a nice and accesible Guyana rum, value for money a good product.
Review by Mitchell Kennedy
Smells largely of raisin and vanilla. Very good smell. Thr taste is more muted on the plum but is high on the caramel and vanilla and some oak and spice after. A tiny bit of chocolate and oak at the end. Wood and raisin finish medium to long.
Review by Gregor
In the beginning, this was my absolute favorite rum. Therefore, I can recommend this to every beginner. But in the meantime he has become too sweet for me. But still a nice rum

Review by Noname971
The attack is very soft, the rum is greedy. Woody and caramel are mixed with a lot of harmony. The finish is medium, leaving the caramel and the woody notes in the mouth.

A solid rum. The best i could find in sofia 😶🌫️ A bit fruity, woody and caramelized/sweet. I think it’s sweetened
Review by Mateusz
Very interesting taste. This is significant improvement on the 12. There is still some alcohol burn that noticeably bigger then in equivalent other rums. I have read about reducing sugar in those rums and never tried those “sweet” ones in the past, but I have a feeling that the alcohol burn was mellowed down by sugar and that now it’s gone (which is great) it still needs some refining. On retasting I am finding something typical for Guyana as with pussers rums. Highly recommended!

very nice rum not sweet at all Very surprised by that . excellent rum very smooth
Review by Henry Davies
More complex than the ED 12. Light nose with raisin and leather. On the mouth it’s sweet and clearly dosed, but has an alcoholic note and edge that gives it a pirate rum type mouth that is a contrast to the other ED rums. The finish is shorter than expected but pleasant and mellows into brown sugar, caramel, and vanilla. A solid rum if you are in the mood for this type of rum but there are many better in my view and the lack of ABV is noticeable

A good glimps too the world of guyana. But too sweet and for me this can be way better.

Brown sugar and mild baking spices throughout. More caramel on the nose, more vanilla and oak on the palate.
Review by Émile Shevek
Balanced, aromatic, typical Guyanese sweetness, suitable as a baptism for beginners, very positive quality/price ratio
Review by Niko31
Review by David Heraty
Nose: Nice sweet caramel, quite woody, dried fruits like raisins and cherries, mild citrus-like orange. Mouth: Very little burn but a nice steady heat. Just a nice spicy, woody immediate burst of flavour followed by a light sweetness and some faint vanilla. Finish: A warm sensation hangs around for a long time and the taste lingers softly for a while. A really nice rum. Has good complexity but perhaps lacks in intensity. With a higher proof this would be something really special.
