Dried fruit and dark wood run through this one from start to finish — raisins, prunes, smoke, licorice and dark chocolate, with the 56.1% heat well tucked in. This 1998 Bellevue from Marie-Galante skips the soapy note some vintages carry; tasters call it heavy, dark and complex. Fruit stays dezent behind the wood and roast, so it reads more brooding than bright.

Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, day 13. A very sweet nose of cooked banana and raisins, cedar wood, spices and brown sugar. The attack on the palate is soft, slightly acqueous (ABV a little low?) then the aromas develop around sweetness (banana, caramel). The cedar wood is present but balanced. The finish is long, smooth and balanced, with all the aromas calming down in unison. A very fine rum!

Unfortunately, this bottling is not the highlight of my personal '98 Bellevue ranking. From memory, I was more impressed by others. You can drink it, but not one that stays in my memory.

Tasted together with the TWJ and the Milano Bellevue 98. On the nose, it is damn similar to the Milano, maybe a bit more roasted aromas and no mint. On the palate then immediately with a slightly dirty note, licorice, leather, dried fruits, caramel and spices and a pleasant sweetness. I also really like this Bellevue.

9:On the nose, smoky, roasted wood notes like dark chocolate, caramelized, leather, with allspice, dried fruits like raisins, prunes, black berry, cognac barrel impact is obvious, for a moment pungent, overripe fruits, fresh molasses, flowery, dark with black tea, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is even darker, thick, vegetal with soy sauce, hay, herbaceous, various fruits join, like plum, dried apricots, citrus fruits, metallic patina, pastry, nuts and meaty tones. 9:On the palate, the attack is intense, dark, dry, cognac barrel impact is obvious, with thick molasses and licorice, flowery, grassy, earthy with tobacco, dried apricots, raisins, prunes, smoe cherry, citrus fruits and hints of banana, roasted wood notes like dark chocolate, roasted nuts, caramelized, meaty, smoky, leather, mocha, biscuits, cookie dough, brioche, pastry, spicy with allspice.Some sugarcane hints pop up and quickly vanish. 8,9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with roasted wood notes like coffee, nuts, leather, smoky, resinous, spicy with cinnamon, sugarcane hints, fruity with dried dates, prunes, raisins, molasses is dark with black tea, flowery, grassy, herbaceous and slightly minty. In the glass three 98er Bellevue that I had not tasted before: RX10048 RX11158 RX11276 RX11276 is my favorite and all who just participated in my split can look forward to a great rum. RX11276 seems much fruitier than the other two rums, which are more on the woody side, RX10048 even more than RX11158, which I don't find so great in Bellevues of an overage.

We had a wonderful tasting at my birthday party on Friday. Very relaxed and cosy. Very complex and kind of heavy rum, what's not to like :-) Not as fruity as I'd expected but nice and woody with smoke and chocolate. After a few hours the nose is wonderful in the glass. Dry with a long finish.

Small Herzogenaurach tasting in Flo's cellar: I generally like the 1998 Bellevue bottlings and this one doesn't disappoint either. Fruit rather discreet, but nice and dark, wood, spices, chocolate and smoke. There are even some slightly dirty notes on the nose.

Dried fruit and wood dominate here from start to finish. On the palate and finish, smoke and roast aromas are added. Overall very heavy, alcohol basically very well integrated, maybe a bit too strong on the nose.

Insanely delicious 98er Bellevue that I would have guessed blind as Savanna Traditionnel. Very complex and balanced. Lots of cinnamon, plus mocha, mint, date, chamomile, smoke, and raisin. A really beautiful release!

Delicious Bellevue with the typical aromas. Nice raisin with cooking banana, licorice, vegetal notes, chocolate, smoke, a bit of tar, perfume and plum. Delicious. I like it a lot. Solid 1998 Bellevue.

The recently tasted 98 Nobilis was more with apple, the RomDeLuxe, on the other hand, comes more over the plum nose. There are toasty aromas, chocolate and a subtle, pleasant freshness. The palate adds tobacco and latte. The finish again very smoky / roasty.

Having just opened the bottle, I can already see that it will gain in strength with oxidation. I was expecting a much more demanding rum... But in the end, it's very well integrated and balanced for this type of profile. The nose is fruitier than the palate, with empyreumatic aromas. The palate is darker and candied, with a smokiness that I appreciate. The finish is logical and long. This is a rum I like :)

Great monkey rum!!!!! Alcohol perfectly integrated. Nice edges and corners without being intrusive. If the price at romdelux wasn't always so close to the limit. One bottle of this wouldn't be wrong.

Pleasant fruity aroma, spices, barrel and flowers. Taste-wise an indefinite mix of fruit and dried fruit with spices, but in such a super delicious form that it doesn’t matter at all. Velvety pleasure with perfectly integrated alcohol and a finish like a cherry in chocolate.

Now I finally have to write a review as the bottle is slowly coming to an end. First of all, it tastes very good; what I particularly like about this 98 Bellevue is that it doesn't have the soapy note that some 98s have. The body is heavy and dark (I like that). Woody, smoky, tar, dark fruits, mint, tobacco, a very good Bellevue.
