The esters are present, but are not overpowering and leave room for many other aromas. In addition to the grilled banana aroma typical of the distillery, the barrel interaction provides some enriching oak components. What a great rum! Very fine!

JMWP marque which I have not had before. On the nose some Jamaican funky notes but really rather muted, it’s hard to get much, some unintegrated alcohol, light banana and an almost sickly weight. With the mouth everything gets elevated to another level, green olive and brine, thyme, with roasted hazelnuts and salted taffy. It’s savoury, and rich with some soft bite that gets your tastebuds going. It’s certainly interesting but the olive and brine salt notes are just too much for me. If you are in the mood maybe, and would love to try and do something akin to a martini. The finish is medium long and again olive and salt forward with a more refined mango in the background. If you love a brine influence in your rum this is for you!

In direct comparison with the 2006 HV WPM, which I really enjoyed, I have to say that this one is very similar, with a rounder, more expressive, fleshier nose. The nose is rounder, more expressive and fleshy, with more marzipan and vanilla. On the palate, the same structure as Velier but with a little more sweetness and roundness, which suits it well. The alcohol is well integrated. A very fine bottling.
