Thompson Bros. New Yarmouth Jamaican Rum 1994

People already deep into 1994 New Yarmouth will feel at home here: dominant coconut, dark caramel, chocolate and roasty espresso notes over a spicy, tannic base at 59.1%. Several tasters call it one of the "etwas schwächeren" of that vintage — a touch simpler and less balanced than its siblings — but still a very likeable, rounded pour with dried fruit and a long dry finish.

The community says
  • Dominant coconut
  • Dark chocolate, roast
  • But: Less complex

Very dark, very roasty, much less fruity and less sweet as the SBS in comparison. Has what of dark chocolate with espresso bean splitter and sea salt! In terms of complexity he could put a little more on the bank but overall still very tasty!

In the blind tasting, I would have guessed Foursquare. However, somewhat darker and toastier with little fruitiness. On the palate creamy, spicy and relatively dry. Beautiful bottling for a top rating but complexity on the palate is missing.

New Yarmouth lineup. Schöne Kokosnuss Nase mit ordentlich vollreifen Früchten. Dazu gesellt sich im Geschmack noch Schokolade. Aber die Kokosnuss ist schon dominant. Sehr schöner runder new Yarmouth. Wirklich toll.

Ein wirklich hervorragender New Yarmouth. Schon beim Einschenken sehr intensive Düfte nach Gebäck, tropischen Früchten und Gewürzen. Sehr langer Abgang. Für mich sind die Tannine etwas störend sonst aber genial.

I am kind of disappointed, it feels unbalanced and like a mixture made from everything what NY can be but without any aspect really standing out.

New Yarmouth

Avg Rating 8.7/10 96 Rums

New Yarmouth is Jamaican rum's best-kept secret. There are almost no photos of it, it makes Wray & Nephew White, the island's best-selling rum, and it is one of only three distilleries that can reach the highest esters. Collectors only really discovered it through aged 1994 vintages, which have become some of the most surprising rums on RumX.
