A Beenleigh of great smoothness, bottled at the right strength. The floral/rose side is accompanied by exotic fruits and cooked citrus. Good finish but maybe lacks a bit of length.

Plantation Australia surprises with a very pronounced nose of wood glue, followed by a purée of ripe, almost rotten exotic fruits, immediately reminiscent of a Jamaican rum. There's a funky side to this rum, aged for 13 years in Bourbon casks in Queensland, followed by a year in cognac casks in France. You can immediately feel the kangaroos bouncing up and down your nostrils on these Harlequin candy markers. On the palate, it's more the languorous, gourmand side of the kangaroo, with a definite sweetness (although there's no added sugar) and a taste of vanilla custard with some slightly acidic fruit (peach, apricot). Round and disarming. The finish has a delicate woodiness and a few hints of nuts.

A chocolaty base profile with some peach, but then mostly floral notes. A bit of nail polish on the nose. The finish is reminiscent of cognac. The alcohol is not ideally integrated especially towards the back and it lacks a bit of power.

very round Australian and finally times again what without dosage and X finishes of Plantation. I like very well and shows in a beginner-friendly way how exciting Australia can be. very floral, fruity after stone fruit and some cocoa and cinnamon. in the finish minimally woody, toasty and drying what will be due to the cognac finish. would be nice if Plantation continues at this level!

Surprisingly different for an Australian. Initially very mild and warm, with vanilla and caramel almost Spanish on the nose, it comes across surprisingly powerful and bitter on the palate. Not Champions League, but if you’re looking for that in a Plantation from Australia, you’re probably on the wrong track. Good price for good quality, definitely worth drinking now and then.

Pleasant nose after opening, caramelized tropical fruits mixed with solvents. Then the pastry side gains strength after a few minutes. On the palate, it's very round on chocolate and citrus. It's indulgent with a touch of licorice and some spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. The finish is unfortunately quite short. Pleasantly surprised by this juice.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: On the nose, the rum is earthy with notes of vanilla and fruit. Bourbon notes come through. Spicy with a slight chocolate note and a hint of glue is also noticeable. So far, so good. On the palate, the rum is dry and spicy. Little sweetness but lots of wood with tannins. Some fruit and coconut linger. Over time, the rum definitely becomes more complex and has a nice dry base, to which the Cognac finish fits well. The finish is woody and shows many bitter notes. Here the floral, earthy notes come back. A solid dry rum that suits the (unfortunately) typical Cognac finish of Plantation well. If you like spicy, dry rums, this is the one.

Only one week left until Christmas Eve and the 17th rum of the Planteray advent calendar is Australia 2007 from the limited Birds edition by Paradise. This is a rum from the Beenleigh distillery, unique because the sugarcane molasses was fermented for a long 12 days and then distilled in a copper pot still. After that, the rum aged 13 years in 200-liter bourbon barrels at the home distillery and 1 year in 400-liter cognac barrels in France. Bottled in 2021 at 166 esters, without coloring or sweetening, at cask strength 49.3%. As comments showed, thanks to the long fermentation this rum is unique, you find a bit of Jamaica, Guyana, and even Haiti. It doesn't taste like the usual Beenleigh/Australia rum and the reason is that Alexandre Gabriel was involved from the start and he says the most important for the final rum taste is fermentation, which in this case 12 days is really exceptionally long, usually fermentation lasts 2-3 days. #plantadvent2025

This is the first Australian rum i tried and i must say that i like this one a lot. Fruity and a bit of a cognac style rum. Finish could have been a bit longer though. This one is going on my wishlist 😋

For me one of the least of the Paradise Birds series from Plantation. The alcohol comes strongly to the forefront and the influence of the cognac is too strong for my taste. It's no match for the Duchess Australia 13, also from the Beenleigh distillery. I already know what I'll drink next 😁

Nose starts with a fruity and vanilla note, but also sharp-edged. The taste is very different. Cutting, rather spicy, a bit salty like Japanese sake. The fruity notes which others discovered don‘t come to my mouth at all. But some wooden cask on the second sip. The finish is also spicy and warm. Interesting experience but not in the upper half of my Plantation Rums though.

Surprisingly complex in taste. A slap of truth compared to the previous nose. Nose-pleasing through wood and gently mild sweetness. Slight hint of mushrooms and plum. Drinking sensation suddenly shifts to gentle spiciness with nuts. Slightly fruity woody vanilla hidden under gently pulling citrus fruit. The finish is a bit short. But tender notes.

I don't necessarily like the brand much but this one surprised me. Very pleasant with a very fruity nose with some solvent notes. On the palate I find strawberry candy, passion fruit a bit chemical (like ice candy). A nice length.

By the just under 50% is this rum he loses a lot of flavor in my opinion. According to packaging, it should taste fruity with light coconut shares, unfortunately, I can not confirm this, because the sharpness predominates due to the alcohol content. In the finish, although a slight honey sweetness comes about which also lasts a little but I will not buy him again.
