There can only be one true Captain Cola. Unfortunately, it is not really convincing either neat or as a mixer, but it is certainly solid. Another true old rum from Jamaica, before it became sugar water from the Virgin Islands.

Überraschend gut! Dunkel und bitter, mit Noten von Dörrpflaume und schwarzer Johannisbeeren. Ich bilde mir ein, eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit zu EMB-Abfüllungen zu erkennen, die aber von deutlichen bitteren Noten überlagert werden. Woher diese Noten kommen, kann ich nicht genau erfassen, aber wenn es nicht spezielle ausgeflammte Fässer sind, dann wurde hier irgendwie getrickst. Insgesamt aber doch überraschend gut, ich hatte weniger Qualität erwartet.

What can I say... this rum is at least recognizable as such... albeit borderline! The nose smells of burnt caramel and some prunes! The same goes for the palate, plus wood and alcohol, The finish is bitter and woody. Hardly enjoyable neat, perhaps as a mixer 🤷🏻

Typische Noten von eingefärbtem Rum mit viel Braunem Zucker, Zuckercouleur, Melasse, Malz und etwas Zitrus. Column-Alkohol im Hintergrund. Aber nicht so schlecht wie die heutigen CM

Das ist wirklich nichts Besonderes. Kann man trinken, muss man aber nicht. Ähnliches bekommt man auch im Supermarkt. Sehr dünn und keine Intensität. Für mich darf es gerne etwas schwerer und komplexer sein.

Was soll man da sagen,..,ein typischer Captain 😂. Pur trinken naja…im Notfall geht das, muss aber nicht. Ggf sogar etwas für einen Einsteiger, der was süßes braucht und einen Bekannten Namen lesen will,…muss aber nicht sein. In der Cola kommt er so ch ehrlich klasse.

Nose is very much dominated by burnt sugar notes, reminding me of WP 109 or Demerara 151s. However, both deliver more complexity on the nose than this Captain Morgan bottling. Similar on the palate: burnt caramel and not much more going on. Easy drinkable but not very exciting.
