Levy Lane Poisson Tamosi Père Labat (Hiali) 2013
The Calvados cask is the twist here — baked apple, ripe pear and stewed-fruit sweetness laid over a classic Marie-Galante agricole. Underneath it's all cane: grassy, floral, herbal, with licorice, black pepper and a salty-mineral edge. At 57.5% the alcohol sits surprisingly well integrated, and a few drops of water pull more fruit out. Long, dry, spice-driven finish that keeps developing in the glass.

8,6:On the nose, a very attractive first impression with herbaceous, grassy sugar cane, fresh, flowery and an apple, citrus, then nutty wood. On aeration, it get's a bit darker with a licorice, roasted wood notes like caramel, marzipan and pastry, the fruits and cane are fermented, we spot some black berry, orange, the cane is minty and fresh with tea, from spices, a vanilla lights the darker notes. 8,6:On the palate, the sugarcane is mineral, flowery and herbaceous, grassy with sweet honey, fermented like the fruits that occupy our tasting buds, especially pear, orange, we are attacked with some esters, pepper and salt, roasted and smoky wood with caramel, pastry. After a nice rest, a bit darker with licorice, nutty, fresh with tea and minty notes, a variety of fruits pop up with red, yellow ones and some apples, the wood releases a tannic touch. 8,5:The finish is long, tannins continue with a cooperation of green tones of sugar cane honey, dry and smoky, roasted wood notes, FAI crunchy bread, bbq, nuts, there is some rubber, the tropical fruits like banana and mango are fermented, orange is bitter..

Franconian Tasting Gang at Jarek's Not even that good. I also expected a little more from this rum. Basically, it's good, but unfortunately not so good that it really deserved a higher rating. Unfortunately, there just wasn't more in it.

Wow! Initially fruity on the nose, then turning spicy. Sweet, herbal and spicy on the palate. Very interesting. The influence of the Calvados cask always shines through, but not too obtrusively. Very distinctive profile, but also very tasty. Addendum: I got myself a sample for the first tasting and I liked the rum so much that I had to have a bottle. Yesterday we opened it as part of a tasting of the Franconian Rum Tasting Gang and I hardly recognized the rum. Unpleasantly sharp alcohol, the Calvados influence very dominant in the direction of fruit brandy. Not an 8.6 rating. However, I let the rum oxidize a little and then try it again.

Taste of 3 random rhum agricoles, let´s see. Rum Artesanal Clement 2015, 55,5% Tamosi Hiali Peré Labat 2013, 57,5% J.M Millisime 2004, 42,9% C: Gold N: Oh, I know I’ll love this one. Oily and earthy. Am I smelling the best tequila reposado in the world? Sweet celery mixed with purée of pears, granny apples, rasp- and strawberries. On top of that dulce de leche, Tea and touches of vinegar. But that´s not it, I also get light peat, very resemblance of that burn eucalyptus and old tyres I get with pot still from Fiji. All very subtle though, almost elegant. M: So good, different, totally different to everything I’ve had before. But I love it. Earthy. Whiff of burn sugar and veggies. Sweet sourness. Big taste! F: Good length. Chilli heat! B: Yes sir. A very particular kind of distillate.

A Père Labat with lively and expressive aromas, with a very impregnated herbaceous, vegetal and floral framework, exotic fruits, wood, spices and sweet notes of sugar cane and caramel that embellish the nose. The rum is much more marked in the mouth, with a very spicy, floral and vegetal profile. There is an appreciable salty and mineral touch, and the bitterness brought by licorice, anise and cocoa. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, carried by this earthy, vegetal and spicy profile. A very pleasant rum, round and complex for its age and power.

04.05.2024 Retasting during a nice exclusive tasting at Romdeluxe. I stick to my score and I still love it. -------------------------- This is a very nice interpretation of a Pere Labat and the flavours just come at you from opening the bottle. My favourite part is that they didn't lower the ABV. Leave the glass for the next day and nose it, amazing flavours still emanating from the glass. Price to quality is extremely good which is why I bought a backup bottle :-)

Blind tasting. You immediately recognize an agricultural profile. Very vegetal, sweet on the nose. A sweet, honeyed side associated with fruit, rather apple-like. It immediately reminds me of a bielle aged in (sweet) wine barrels. In any case, I'm ready to talk Guadeloupe. Verdict: failed for the Bielle, but Guadeloupe I had 😉 Well done guys.

Intense yellow fruits, grass and hay emerge from the glass. Typical Agricole on the palate with yellow fruits. The long finish brings a lot of spice and is dry with a slight hint of saltiness. I like it, but I need to get to grips with Agricole more intensively. Differentiating the aromas is somehow more difficult for me in this category.

Particular...oxidized but...floral honey, fruitcake mixed dried fruit & french fries. Some fermented tropical fruit/funk/jackfruit! T: Vanilla, sweet + rich, honey F: Funky, long, sweet, slight sourness long warming, durian remains slight creaminess ie custard tart

At first quite a heavy bitterness and sharpness. After while it develops in to a warmer bouquet. Going back to the glass it keeps developing. Very nice indeed!

Alot of caramel on the nose, followed by chocolate, anise, baked apple and pears on palate. Quite enjoyable. Thanks Tobias for sharing a sample.

Very very tasty and balanced Marie galante rum. Surprisingly complex and elegant for 57.5% . Makes a real mood despite the young age!

In aroma agricole with a bit of calvados (nothing special), taste a bit more interesting, but for the money I would have expected more.
