Overripe pineapple, banana and glue up front, then 29 years of oak rolling in with marzipan, honey and a smoky, bacon-like funk. This is classic HLCF Hampden with the ester punch softened and rounded by long tropical aging. The 58.6% sits so well most tasters barely notice it. A few feel the cask takes over on the palate, but the nose alone keeps people coming back.

Good, very balanced, creamy Hampden, but a little too bacony and woody for me personally... At the very end, something creamy like mango lassi comes through, but at the same time also cumin and salt, smoke and too much acidity, so unfortunately not at a top level. Compared to other 90s, 92s or 93s Hampdens, it can't quite keep up and is a little too toasty and one-dimensional.

Outstanding Hampden... Complex and with perfectly integrated alcohol! Funky and multi-layered with a long finish... The interplay of aromas is so complex that you have to slowly roll it over your tongue again and again. That's exactly how it should be 👍🏻

A nose of lactic fermentation, spices, then overripe pineapple, esters and slightly smoky oak. An after shave (and no, it's not my hands). The palate is soft and creamy on entry, followed by a pleasant Espelette pepper-like spiciness accompanied by fruit, then smoky woodiness invades the palate. The finish is of medium length, with spicy, woody/smoky notes and citrus fruit (grapefruit) at the very end. A fine rum, more expressive than balanced, yet everything here is good. What remains on the palate long afterwards is just delicious!

Update after blind tasting yesterday. Further a class rum. Have on the palate now still yogurt and marzipan made out. The fun but of course according to the age he lets it go a little quieter. But that's exactly what you want here.what ne nose, the full Jamaica dröhnung. on the palate then clearly more wood. but incredibly complex and funky, the alcohol in addition prima integrated. Finish warm and long.

Nice representative from 1992. Even after this rum, I can't help but notice that I like the 90s and 93 bottlings a little more in principle, but of the 92s I know, this is definitely a top representative. A nice selection.

Tropical fruits dominate the nose. Ripe mango and pineapple, esters, caramel, vanilla and a light floral note. Also quite fruity and round on the palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Edit: Had the edge in the blind tasting with Rum Nation 1992 HLCF (RX1413) and CDI 1992 HLCF (RX8472).

#1 RumXHighE(a)ster weeks: Blind tasting: Hampden approx. 10year tropical aging 60-65% 600-800 gr/hlpa This is a hampden i haven‘t tried before, for sure. Result: I totally missed the aging, but the rest was quite good 👍🏻 Btw A very good hampden, with a high impact of esters. The alcohol is well noted from the start to the end. The barrel/aging isn‘t well noted, because the fruity notes and esters a overwhelming (in a good way 😜).

Very citrusy and a good portion of wood, 29 years in the barrel is quite a statement. Quite fruity and funky, as you would expect from Hampden, but not as fat and full-bodied as I expected. Somehow it lacks a bit of depth, but at a very high level! However, it's also a hefty price, so I'm satisfied with my sample. Stays in the mouth forever afterwards, here again very strong!

Edit: this was one of my first really, really good Jamaicans. Unfortunately I no longer have a bottle, but the sample I got again will be drunk on a special day. Simply superb. A truly round, creamy, multi-layered taste experience. That's all I need to say. My new front runner in my ranking.

At first I had some problems with the 1992 vintage, but mainly because the alcohol is simply very well integrated here, I have to upgrade the bottling. It's well balanced between fruity notes, esters and wood. It also has a pleasant, slightly creamy mouthfeel.

1st sample of the Easter edition. Great rum. Right from the start, yellow fruits hit the nose immediately. Mirabelle plums, banana, pineapple. On the palate, fruits also dominate. Esters rather discreet. Instead, nice notes of honey and marzipan. For me a top Hampden!

Yes, definitely Hampden, and nicely old. But it doesn't quite grab me on the palate. You can still taste the ester lightly the next morning. Nose: intense and concentrated esters. Also vinegar and, which I hadn't noticed so much in Hampden before, wax! Right next to that, honey sweetness and the freshness of lemon and lime. Pineapple is there too but stays behind the lemon. At the back, honey comes again with some more bitter wood. 89 Palate: again intense with lots of esters, making it a bit bitter and dry at the start. Lemon peel with a slight pepper, then slightly sweet-more sour pineapple. It has something woody, slightly burnt with an umami note. Slightly metallic. At the back again esters, lemon peel, slight anise and some bacon. 87

Pfff it's really good! Crazy fruity and top indulgence. If you want to nitpick, the cask is quite marked, but well, 29 years the baby after all. Alcohol superbly integrated, disarmingly easy to sip. These aren't my favorite rums which explains a simple 91 😅, but it's a superb Hampden, really excellent.

Without merit or fault. I like this one better than the other '92 HDs, and even some of the tropical HLCFs, even though they're pretty much the same. It's not too different from its '92 buddies, I'm more confident that the new HLCFs bottled in the future will get better and better.

Day 1 of the calendar C: bright yellow N: minerals, flowery, pineapple (grilled?), papaya, citrusy on the background. Leather, possibly? The profile, on the nose, reminds me of Hampden.. P: funky, citrus peel, pineapple. Minerals and wood on the background. The ABV is decently high, I’d guess on the 55ish or slightly above. F: bitter, slightly woody, minerals, lemon pith Guess: I’ll go with the obvious choice: Hampden, possibly CH or even DOK (although it doesn’t appear to be that astringent), maybe 5-7 years old. But..we know who selected the bottles..so I’m waiting for the “IT’S GUYANA!” 🫣

Surprisingly balanced on the nose for the age. I am greeted by incredibly pleasant overripe apple aromas that I have not had like this before, very exciting! But of course also many other fruits and tropical fruits. Also lots of solvent, acidity but also sweetness. The usual earthy notes are very present, but not overpowering like with the Nobilis. In the mouth the rum unfortunately falls off significantly. Very thin... The cask clearly dominates. Lots of wood, bitterness and for an HD unusually many roasted aromas. In the finish there are then beautiful roasted nuts.

One of the best and above all most balanced Hampdens I've ever had in the glass. Every first glass loudly cries out for a second. Possibly also for another. Great aroma, lots of banana and very nice but subtle smoke. In one sentence: It doesn't get much better.

Great nose, pure Jamaican funk. Ester, glue, fruit basket with some banana and marzipan. A taste revelation with lots of pineapple and super fruity. It is incredibly mild with a pleasant sweetness and perfectly integrated alcohol. Lingers on the palate for a long time. Great. A great Hampden, just as it should be.

Poured the Nobilis HD (HLCF) 1992 again for direct comparison. Both show a very similar taste/smell profile: lemon marmalade, yogurt/cream, a fine spice and wood. I can't find big differences, even the somewhat low ABV level of the RumCask has no significant impact. So - considering the prices - the RumClub is actually a real bargain 😉 Many thanks to Chris for the bottle split!

Really nice rum here. Complex nose that’s full of ester and fruit with wood, caramel, vanilla, and some solvents. On the plate this one has a big funky pineapple note, esters, wood and spice, a really nice texture and a toasty finish. This is really well balanced and the alcohol here is really well integrated.

I really like the nose and it invites you to linger longer. There are also plenty of aromas to discover on the palate. Yoghurt and bacon surrounded by beautiful fruity notes. Very good, but for me the tropically matured ones simply stay ahead because their mouthfeel, intensity and oiliness simply impress me more.

My RumRating Review 3y ago: The nose is a revelation and is classic Hampden. The ester content of the HLCF is on point and the long storage makes the rum rich and soft. There are tropical fruits, overripe fermented banana, honey, vanilla and roasted oak. A high level of complexity has been achieved here. On the palate, the alcohol is perfectly integrated. The rum is full-bodied and creamy. In addition to the ester, a lot of wood with pleasant roasted aromas, tropical fruits, some spice and it becomes warmer and warmer. The finish is long and is accompanied by wood notes, spicy roasted aromas and esters. This rum has become very soft and rounded due to the long storage. Here everything is in its place and to me the rum does not seem over stored. The ester content is completely sufficient and for me one of the best Hampden I have drunk so far. The price of 250 Euros is unfortunately quite reasonable here. A really great rum.

OMG! What a rum! On the nose an explosion of fruits in a variety that stands out! The esters are perfectly balanced with the fruity aromas. A small touch of roasted smell and remarkably notes of green aple. Perfect! On the palate the aging contributes notes of wood and a bitterness of espresso which as well dominates the long finish. Slightly too much influence of the cask. As a Hampden of course not the intense heavy depth of my beloved old Demeraras, so lighter and fresh despite the age but almost perfectly balanced. Still available at acceptable price!

Very good HLCF, age has tamed the beast well: the profile is rounded with woody aromas that blend well with the fruit. A little more varied than younger bottlings. The nose, palate and finish are logical, with a fine overall balance.

What an awesome Hampden, one of the best HLCF I've tasted. On the nose you immediately get the typical Hampden flavor. The nose promises a lot and the palate delivers. It instantly takes me back to my Jamaica vacation.
