One taster nailed it: "Very similar to RA, less fruity, more mild." This 1986 Rockley from West Indies leans medicinal and lightly smoky, with honey, honeycomb, wax and a touch of vanilla over restrained old oak. A few tasters find it a shade softer and shorter than its stablemates from Rum Artesanal and Silver Seal, but the 52.7% carries it beautifully and the finish lingers.

Rockley-Essenz auf Spitzenniveau, aber im Direktvergleich mit den nochmal älteren Vertretern von Rum Artesanal und Silver Seal wirkt hier die Abfüllung auf mich fast schon etwas verdünnt. Das fällt tatsächlich nur im Direktvergleich auf, denn auch hier ist eine Topbewertung absolut verdient. Tolles Release, in meiner Liste aber nicht der King of Rockley.

Last rum tasting for this year and then it's also my 500th rum! I rock that neat with something rare and good ... an 86 Rockley 🤩Nose: fantastic mix of spicy-sweet honey, delicate honeycomb, wax and medicinal notes with some iodine and brine. Behind that some orange zest and then slightly woody and smoky. All well balanced and round. 94Palate: very round, salty and spicy. Again this slightly medicinal with some iodine. Slightly woody-smoky with vanilla and fine honey in honeycomb. 92It's all the subtle nuances that make a Rockley and the unique profile that won't be seen again. Must definitely try again. With a little more rest!

Tasting from 2016 with good friends in Munich. A great WIRD release with almost perfect harmony between the elements and great ABV integration. Fruity and despite the age the wood is not dominant. I really like the smoky touch though it's light. Very nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has honey and nut flavours.

Teil 7/8 unseres 1986er Rockley Tastings: Duncan Taylor: deutlich medizinischer & rauchiger wie der Silver seal, weniger Frucht, etwas weniger süffig und etwas weniger von der Rockley DNA die ich persönlich geil finde. auch im Abgang viel kürzer leider. guter Stoff, keine Frage aber der Silver Seal & der RA gewinnen für mich im Vergleich, da sie deutlich harmonischer & komplexer sind und einen längeren Abgang haben bzw generell mehr zu bieten meiner Meinung nach! 🙏🇧🇧

Rockley Tasting 1986/87/2000 Runder und gesetzter Stil. In der Nase Honig, Holz und etwas Vanille. Am Gaumen weich, leicht süßlich und harmonisch, aber weniger markant. Angenehm zu trinken, jedoch mit etwas weniger Charaktertiefe als die (Alkohol) stärkeren Vertreter.

Nejlepší rumy z Barbadosu jsou ty, které nechutnají typicky Barbadosky. A rumy z destilerie WIRD a ročníku 1986 patří mezi nejlepší z nich. Toto je opět krásná ulázka komplexního technického rumu, která Barbados vulbec nepřipomíná.

I found it a little fresher than the Artesanal rum, but this was a little more complex and mature. With both bottlings, it is amazing how ingeniously alcohol can be integrated into a rum.
