Captain Morgan Gold Label 1970s

In cola it works fine — one taster reckons the more cola, the better — but neat it's a curiosity more than a keeper. The nose is fresh vanilla with lemon and orange; the palate turns mildly sweet with a distinct orange note (one reviewer likened it to an orange liqueur), a touch of spice and young wood, then fades short. Nobody guessed Jamaica blind.

The community says
  • Orange-vanilla nose
  • But: Short finish
  • But: Thin, watery palate

Orange-vanilla column-still, better in cola than neat A vintage bottling most enjoyed as a mixer, not a sipper — pleasant orange and vanilla, but thin, short and nothing anyone needs a whole bottle of.

The funny calendar day 17 Another original Captain. Very nice to have this in the glass again. Unfortunately reduced again. I would be very interested in something like this in cask strength.

The comic advent calendar day 17 I've wanted to try this one for a long time... I would never have come across "Jamaica" blind 😇😇 great to be able to try it, but it's not something I would need a whole bottle of.

The nose is fresh vanilla, sweetly fruity like lemon or orange. Mildly sweet on the palate, although I clearly imagine orange here (a bit like Grand Manier or Contreau). Then a little spice. All in all, quite short. Alcohol is well integrated.

08.11.2007 Had a 2 week trip around Vietnam to enjoy the local culture and food. We were staying very local so everything was extremely cheap. Needless to say that bars didn't have the expensive stuff because most locals couldn't afford it. This one was also a pass on sipping. It did really well in a Mojito and Pina Colada.

No rum is more imitated than Jamaican rum. This is the home of funk, the fruity, overripe-banana intensity that drinkers call hogo, made in the biggest pot stills outside Irish whiskey. When the rest of the Caribbean moved to the column still, Jamaica kept the pot still as its house style, and that stubbornness is exactly why its rum is so prized today.
