Edit: killer Daiquiri Comparison between the two ABV bombs from Romdeluxe. What can I say, you don't need a big sip from either. Truly both are absolute ester explosions. At some point you lose track of all the smells and flavors you discover. After two to three times going back and forth, I unfortunately can't really distinguish anything anymore because of the flavor explosions. Conclusion: both have charm and for me there is no real favorite.

Very wild, unaged Hampden with extreme ester profile. Immediately explosive aromas of fermented pineapple, banana, glue and solvents on the nose, plus some citrus and a slightly salty note. On the palate uncompromisingly intense, raw and high in alcohol with lots of funk, pepper and an almost burning energy. Feels less like a classic sipper, more like a distillate in pure form. Exciting and impressive in its intensity, but clearly not for cozy drinking.

Extremely good DOK! Would love to try it in a daiquiri but it's too expensive for that...😅 In terms of price-performance, nothing beats the fine drams. Still a cool one here for high ester power drinks!

Phew, given the ABV of this rum I feel like a bloody beginner... 🥴 The annoying fruit fly didn't seem to feel that way, bravely it immediately attacked the DOK and paid for this boldness with its life. 🤷♂️ [No fake!] So, this rum should be enjoyed with caution. Yes, there is a lot of tempting tropical fruit, but also a powerful carrier of aroma - and that is alcohol after all. Conclusion: You should try it at least once (especially if you want to feel like a beginner again). Oh, and if you want to make a comparison in these regions: I found the incredible HGML from last year (surprising overachiever from Romdeluxe at last year's GRF) more drinkable and digestible despite its 86%.

What a rum! Here is Hampden in all its splendor! The fruits of the distillery are well present (Banana / Pineapple / Mango / Sour cherry / Strawberry), a huge empyreumatic side due to the esters does not calm the beast (Copper / Rubber / Smoke / Tar / Solvent...).It is spicy in the Jam way (Clove / Nutmeg / Cumin / Pepper (chilli) / Cinnamon).the absence of wood brings us a nice vegetal side as well as a nice freshness (Licorice / Citrus / Sap / Green / Hay / The (green / bergamot)).it is also greedy and pastry Cream / Brioche.

#4293 07.10.2023 this was a 7 hour long event with 3 friends and it was a nice day. This was the last one before mea ing and what a way to end the day. Love these intense ester rums, especially as the last one where your palate has been prepared for it. Fruity and earthy with lots of esters. Super long finish and even after getting home the palate still has the flavours.

What to say... Except that it is a bomb not to put in the hands of anyone. This bottle is a public danger that it is necessary to taste for the lovers of high esters. Be careful not to burn your throat on a too big sip

In the category of "who's got the highest alcohol content?" this rum takes pride of place. The nose is an explosion of fruity and phenolic aromas, with fermented, medicinal, rubbery notes, bordering on the metallic. You get the sense that this is no joke. On the palate, it's a real revelation. The integration of the alcohol is quite a feat. The concentration of phenolic flavors (esters, solvents) and tropical fruit is at its peak, but a surprising hint of smokiness enhances the whole. The rum is at once very astringent, very suave and aromatic. The finish is very long, largely captured by tannins, a form of bitterness, funky, medicinal and fermented notes. A bluffing, innovative and captivating rum, to be savored by nano-gorged. The quality/price ratio is questionable for an unaged rum, but the experience, though disconcerting, is well worth the detour to be convinced.

A real firecracker! The nose is still relatively restrained but on the palate it becomes clear what is going on here: Jamaica funk pure! The rum conquers every corner in the mouth and lingers forever!crass stuff and excellent for rum balls and as a kick in the cocktail.

C: No colour. N: Sweet vinegar. A wall of vegetables fights against a grassy mean mezcal-ish note. It´s Hampden so, of course, there is pineapple, citrus and nail polish remover/acetone. This DOK reminds me of the 2007 vintage. M: This rum wants to eat your tongue. If you can handle it, it´s sweet with notes of pineapple and mezcal. The absence of cask influence made it sharp and straight forward. Even if it sounds weird, I will define this as a Cold rum. It lacks warmth in a sense. F: Kind of buttery and candy sweet. B: Would a buy a bottle of this? No, I’m not into mixology and besides, it’s a quirky rum mostly for showing how perhaps the highest ester level in a rum is represented rather than to drinking occasionally. It´s 2cl cool for sharing but not as a whole bottle.

A rum of very high intensity, in the nose and even more in mouth. The phenols are particularly present and the long finish on red fruits is very pleasant.

We are approaching the limit of drinkability. This Hampden is super intense with truly many esters and various tropical fruits as we know from HD. From the palate onwards, strawberry is added. From nose to finish, I taste a metallic note, which is certainly due to the high ABV and the esters. For me personally, the rum is too extreme; definitely not suitable for drinking neat and definitely not for beginners.

Pure brutal DOK essence. Intense, lots of funk and chemical notes on the nose as well as on the palate. As for other DOKs I do find lots of fruits (sour, pineapple, citrus). Alcohol integration is very good. Yet this is just a bit too strong for casual drinking - not very surprising of course. As for its use in cocktails, I find it useful in (very) small doses. A pure daiquiri just comes out „over estered“ and also too strong alcohol wise to be a balanced / injoyabel drink. Nice to get this undiluted DOK in the glas to experience. Otherwise I don’t see much use for a whole bottle besides small doses for mixing.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

The rum of all records: the most alcohol and the most esters. And yet, it surprises mainly by its ease of drinking! Fruity with a nice sweetness, a small drop on the tongue is enough for the aromas to spread throughout the mouth. Well, it remains a rum at +85°: I probably won't drink two in a row but the experience is interesting.

Amazing stuff. The first few drops were extremely warm in my mouth and loaded with funk. After that the rum revealed a very fruity profile which I appreciated a lot. An intense ester bomb with a lot of fruit that totally took me by surprise. I need to find a sample of this… 😀

Ladies and gentlemen..this is truly a little gem. Although the ABV might be frightening, it is actually very well integrated and all that alcohol dramatically enhances all the wonderful flavors that this rum brings..funk banana peel, pineapple, orange zeist, then rocky minerals, lots of flowers, medicine, pencil eraser. It gradually evolves into grass, fresh bitter almonds with a pinch of green pepper and lastly some green tea. Water is mandatory to enhance those fruity flavors (mango and papaya also come through), also making the rum a little bit more astringent. Amazing !

Neat, just a lip moistener is enough to ignite an incredible bomb of aromas in the mouth. Beautiful esters with a creamy, pastry-like mouthfeel as a base and a subtle, plant-fresh side. Dangerously mild, which could tempt you to take a bigger sip, with rather fatal consequences. Great for mixing, but in the long run, I wouldn't want to sip it even diluted with water.

I don't even know how to rate it. It's just insanely strong... the only positive thing to say is that even after watering down to about 50%, it still has the same profile.
