29.10.2022 whisky & Rum Festival, nice event with a few friends and a few of our own bottles. This one was a surprise because it's a release hard to find. Fruity and well balanced rum with nice ABV integration. The finish is long, medium dry and has nice dried fruits to it. Made a note that there was a faint smoky note in the profile.

9,1:On the nose, overripe tropical fruits like banana, mango, red fruits with cherry, citrus fruits with mandarine, roasted wood notes like cream toffee, cream brulee, chocolate, fruitcake, brioche, spicy, flowery molasses with violet, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is herbaceous, grassy, vegetal, the fruits fermented, slightly rotten, esters are stronger, cream joins, pastry and cinnamon, anise, all in balance. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is strong, a bit dry, with fermented tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, red fruits and orange, on oxidation with dried apricots, fermented notes like cream, vegetal molasses with briny olive, cereal, grassy, flowery, herbaceous, dark with black tea, as the wood is roasted, smoky with nuts, cookie dough, yeast, spicy with allspice, vanilla, ginger, anise. When the rum is oxidized, soap is in the game. 8,6:The finish is long, very dry and slightly tannic, a bit dirty, as fermented notes pair roasted, spicy and smoky roasted wood. Edit:17.4.26

This is simply the best Hampden LROK I know - the longer tropical maturation can be clearly smelled and tasted here. Fruity funky, balanced and drinkable without any weaknesses. Really tasty... Delivers a stable Mai Tai 👌

One thing upfront: LROK is not really one of my favorite profiles. I've had several in the glass already, and those Birds bottlings from Hampden didn't really convince me. But this bottling with the longer tropical aging tasted really good to me.

Excellent LROK. Four years older than its Habitation Velier sister release from Europe, with significantly more dark sweetness in the finish, which tames the spicy, roasty weightiness of the LROK profile wonderfully and rounds off the profile. For me, this is the best LROK I know.
