I really like this Nine Leaves. Here we have a nice mix of vanilla and fruit (plum and grape) on the nose and palate. Tastes a bit like a vanilla yoghurt with fruit. Delicious.

Tasting notes 05.02.2016 with Dirk Becker at Hanse Spirit: I have one word written big on the notes: Grappa. I still remember it was completely different from anything else I had drunk before. Blind, it would have been Grappa for me. I didn't like it at all, it was too rough for me. Would try it again today for comparison ;)

Did I drink a rum or some plume wine? This one baffled me, I am expecting something wild from this distillery, but was surprised nonetheless. The first glasses from this bottle where a bit underwhelming and rough, it seemed to miss some of the Rum DNA. Later glasses (the bottle is now empty, after half a year) where more enjoyable, due to the oxidation process. This had so much plume wine aroma, that it threw me and my guests quite off. Good rum, but I would not buy again.

Nose is nice, round, fresh, clean but lacks a tiny bit of power. Quite round in mouth, minty / zesty, quite precise. Not very long. Overall nice With the closure of the distillery, tried again. Nice but not great - slightly donwgraded

Already a fruity-fast floral-spicy nose. Slightly reminiscent of red wine with some sour cherry and grape. A subtle floral note, like orange blossom is found alongside burnt sugar. Slightly woody with vanilla. Noticeably flatter on the palate compared to the Encrypted. Fruity, sweet to spicy. Has a subtle almond note, very slightly towards marzipan. There is some plum with vanilla. Slightly woody-bitter and somewhat earthy-dull. The finish reminds me of plum wine with some anise. Solid, own profile, good.

Light nose, a bit mentholated. Menthol touches still present on the palate with a bit of lemon. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is a bit short, a pity. You feel the mastery but it lacks a bit of madness to my taste.

#5188 29.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, light earthy, light mint, anise, light grass, faint sake, fruits, light plum. Palate Round, wood, light spicy, light caramel, light pear, light mint, light anise, light prunes, light sake. Finish Medium long, wood, light roasted, spice, light prunes, light floral, light sake. Empty glass Plum, light floral, vanilla, sake, light berries. Needs to rest for a while for the ABV to settle properly or add a few drops of water.

You can always taste a Nine Leaves and recognize it immediately. This unique selling point also has the Angel's Half. In this case, however, I think that it still has a plus: a pleasing sweetness even in the nose, which should make this rum, which is still occasionally available in specialized stores, also appear accessible to broader pleasure groups. Conclusion: Uncomplicated easy sipper.

The nose resembles a product from local fruit distillers. Very German. On the palate, however, already balanced. It has the fruit brandy touch. But it is really very round and pleasant. Also lingers a good while in the finish.

Another good rum from the house of Nine Leaves which is away from the whole Jamaica and Guyana rum I usually drink so a very successful change.

I've drunk many Nine Leaves, including some single cask samples yet to be released, but in my opinion this one is really too unbalanced, way too much alcohol detached from the rest.
