CDI Guyana Armagnac Finish 2007

People who chase heavily wine-finished, cask-strength Demeraras will find plenty here. The nose leans woody and roasted with dried fruit, prune and mulled-wine warmth; the palate turns dry and tannic with gingerbread, cardamom and roasted chestnuts. Several tasters read it as a red-wine finish rather than Armagnac, and at 61.2% the alcohol sits a bit sharp. One called it "a lovely glass," another wanted more.

The taste is dry and powerful at first, but then develops slightly sweeter notes of gingerbread, freshly baked bread, cardamom and roasted chestnuts - a lovely glass 🙌

7,9:On the nose, roasted wood notes like caramel, chocolate, burnt sugar, leather, spicy anise, red wine/armagnac barrel impact is strong, overpowering, dried fruits like raisins, grapes, flowery molasses, bump into our nosetrils, intense, sulphurous. On aeration, dried apricots and citrus fruits arise, metallic patina, vanilla and nuts, quite hot. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is slightly alcoholic, sharp, intense with overpowering armagnac barrel impact, roasted notes are caramel, biscuits, chocolate, burnt sugar, leather, spicy, tannic, dry, joined by grapes, dried apricots, raisins and citrus fruits, molasses is bitter, flowery. 7,9:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, armagnac barrel impact is strong, sulphurous, molasses is earthy, slightly minty, fruits dried, citrus, grapes, some candied and the wood is toasted, some metallic patina is noticed.

A lot of finesse in the nose of this rum, it is seductive, between floral notes of lavender and fruity notes of honey and sugar cane. Without forgetting the plum jam or the mulled wine of the Christmas market (it depends if you have a CST or not). The attack in mouth is rougher than the nose suggests. But once the mouth is coated, we can enjoy this rather surprising juice. The woody and spicy aromas are clearly accentuated compared to the nose. But not only: vanilla, pepper, licorice, but also notes of undergrowth and resin. And to finish some candied fruits

Hatte mir insgesamt was besseres vorgestellt.

Das Armagnac Finish ist ordentlich präsent. Ich wäre blind eher bei Weinfinish gewesen. Der Grundstoff ist nicht wirklich gut zu erkennen. Land oder geschweige denn das Mark könnte ich nicht zuordnen.

Guyana

Avg Rating 8.4/10 over 1,600 Rums

Guyana is the last home of the wooden still, and the only rum country where the place on the label is almost never the place the rum was made. Its rum, called Demerara after the river, went from 109 distilleries to one, and the estates that closed live on as marks: codes for a recipe, not for a machine. Reading them is the whole skill.
