"Now this is a Demerara" is how one taster put it, and that fits: this 20-year-old Skeldon leans deep and roasty — coffee, dark chocolate, leather and roasted nuts, with dried fruit, raisins and a little caramel underneath. Several people say to let it rest 15 minutes and it opens up. The one recurring gripe is that the 55.7% heat isn't always cleanly tucked in.

Skeldon makes enthusiasts dream. What about the “The Nectar” version from the bottler S.B.S.? Very beautiful nose, you feel like you’re in an English private club with old leather armchairs and a hint of smoke. A very deep nose with a hint of Kirsch. The palate is very ample and smooth. We find the old leather and a bit of bitter almonds. The finish is super long, almost infinite. The empty glass has a complexity of scent, with base notes (wood, leather, sugar) and top notes with dried fruits, vanilla and very ripe fruits. Retasted and a notch below the El Dorado. Edit: better, deeper and more balanced than the Nobilis “Salon du Rhum” (RX13583) tasted in parallel.

9,1:On the nose, herbaceous molasses and dark notes is the first impression we get, with roasted wood notes like roasted nuts, chocolate, leather and caramel, the fruits are yellow and red, some toasted coconut is there. On aeration, the wood is spicy with vanilla, cinammon, the molasses is vegetal, mostly with black tea, the rum is really balanced, buttery, Demerara sugar is caramelized, coffee joins, some citrus fruits. 9:On the palate, the attack is fruity with pineapple and dried fruits like raisins, prunes, dark notes like roasted nuts, leather and dark chocolate, vegetal molasses with licorice, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla.Demerara sugar is caramelized, pairing variety of fruits like cherry, coconut and citrus, yellow fruits, creamy and balanced. 8,8:The finish is long, winterly, dry and tannic, still dark, some new notes arise like dried apricots, tobacco and crème brûlée. Now this is a demerara Rum, wow. If you rest this one for 15+ minutes you're going to be in roasted nutty heaven. The roasted oak is heavy from nose to finish without being too dominant. Wonderfully balanced in its complexity. Spice, licorice and chocolate envelopes this to create a perfect harmony on your palate. Great rum unfortunately also not on my shelves.

Port Mourant meets Skeldon. Apparently more common in these continental-aged Skeldons. Lots of malt, roasted aromas, coffee, earth, tobacco with the sweet and fruity component of a Skeldon. Quite well made and very balanced.

Wow, I like this one extraordinarily well, it is a bit milder, but maybe precisely because of that. As expected very roasty, lots of chocolate, but also vanilla and caramel can be detected, as well as some oak.

Molasses and a good sweetness with lots of spice. Licorice, a bit of popcorn, toasty, malty and also fruits. Good fullness and also tasty. Has a present tannin structure for me. I find the alcohol slightly sharp-edged. Retasting 3x Skeldon from S.B.S. All three at a high level. I just really like the mark.

This is a very tasty Skeldon from S.B.S! The nose goes in the direction of Pampero Anniversario, but is worlds more intense, multi-layered and impressive. Lots of dried fruits, caramel, nuts, coffee, chocolate, leather and nice roasted notes with a very pleasant creaminess. Exactly my taste! The palate is mouth-filling and also creamy. A brilliant sweetness, lots of caramel, dried fruits, chocolate, nuts, nice vanilla aromas and again pleasant roasted notes, complemented by licorice and cinnamon. The long finish is as complex as the nose and palate and is characterized by caramel, coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, coconut, vanilla and a great spiciness. I really, really like this right now. Everyone should try and enjoy this rum! Thanks for the great sample 😀

And another very good 2001 Skeldon. Again very nice fruity spicy aromas with some sweetness and leather. Not as pronounced as the Nobilis, but still noticeable. The 2001 Skeldons are simply top class across the board.

Tasted with the 2001 Nobilis Swr, the SBS 2001 21yo SWR and the 2001 Nectar ... this one is just ahead of the SBS 21yo and the Nobilis as my favorite.

What the 2001 SBS 19y 53.2% has in banana and chocolate, this one has in pineapple, overripe citrus fruits and bitter mocha. Nevertheless tasty but the bitterness and slight acidity are unfortunately disturbing here, so the 19y has the edge and wins...

Very identical to the VM SWR. Slightly stronger alcohol leads to a slightly fuller mouthfeel. Slightly smokier. Very nice rum with a pronounced hazelnut note.

Let this rum sit in the glass. On the nose: First notes are deep, woody leather notes. The more this sits innthe glass, the more nutty notes do appear. There are Brown sugar notes and coffee notes in there. Taste: High abv is there and it could be slightly better integrated. Roasted, leather, oak and dried fruits notes at first. Raisins. Vanilla. Somewhat of a creamy, nutty mouthfeel does surprise a little bit. Finish: First roasted coffee and oak notes. Then you get creamy, coconut and vanilla notes. Medium-long finish. Really good rum and i enjoyed sipping this sample, but alcohol integration could have been better and the Skeldon rums that i have rated higher do have richer palate more to my liking.

Great aroma, you immediately sense that it's a Demerara. Not just any Demerara but a Skeldon: really pleasant spicy and fruity flavors, a warm rum with a long and intense finish but not on the level of other Skeldons.

In the nose, the 'age' is almost tangible. Closing your eyes, you find yourself in a historic, wood-paneled room. In taste, pleasant mustiness, sweetness, leather, chocolate. Oily profile, very complex with a long finish.

Very good Skeldon. The nose isn't that pronounced, but after tasting everything unfolds fully - chocolate, dried fruit, wood, roasted notes, molasses. Exceptionally pleasant rum exactly to my taste, definitely recommend.
