Mount Gay Master Blender Collection - XO The Peat Smoke Expression
Whisky drinkers curious about rum will feel right at home here. It's a cask-strength Mount Gay dressed in Islay peat — campfire smoke and pipe tobacco up front, then the Bajan core comes through: caramel, vanilla, dried figs and toasted nuts. On the palate there's a salty, ashy kick before it rounds out into a long, smoky-sweet finish. A few drops of water tame the 57% burn.

8,3:Over all, it is Bajan, cannot be denied. First on the nose, herbal, undeniable, fleeting, right away nutty with dried fruits and all Bajan classics with baking spices, butterscotch, coconut and caramel that melt into the chocolate. Strong molasses arises... No smokiness till now! And now we get some🙂. Then we receive a nice portion of Bourbon, citrus, tropical fruits with drieness. Medicinal with metallic notes show up for a while, well, complex it is!We continue with gingerbread, ginger, cinnamon, woody notes, bacon and roastedness. 7,9:On the palate we first get a burst of salt! It is crazy, heavy, out of control:smoky, heavy spicy with strong cigar. Later it becomes more balanced with some orange peel and roasted side of Rum. It is a bit bitter, thick and Islay whisky like with peat, camp fire and ashy. Now we finally come to Bajan notes, it becomes dry, woody with caramel and burnt sugar, nuttiness and citrus that swap to a chocolate! 8,1:The finish is very long, round, smoky palate with its variety and with toasted wood and dried fruits linger on, on and on. Quite a feat👍...

"Peatling" this rum was an ingenious idea from Mount Gay and I love it. This is a rum that whisky drinkers will like as well. You may want to add a few drops of water to lessen the burn, but not really needed. The nose is fruity with peat and smoke followed by oak, caramel and vanilla. I just kept on nosing this one. The palate is complex and very well balanced with fruit and spices topped off with caramel, oak and smoke. The peat is here again. The finish is long, very long and warm with spices, orange and a touch of smoke.

Surprisingly harmonious! Alcohol could be minimally better integrated but I really did not think that the Islay finish fits in well here, since I'm absolutely no peat fan. Am positively surprised! The typical Barbados character comes nevertheless intense finish still beautiful to the fore. But since I'm not an Islay fan, I still do not have to have the again and can now finally cross it off my list!😅 180€ + is the bottle beyond mMn not worth...

The nose is dominated by the pleasantly sweet scent of pipe tobacco or a light cigar, subtle citrus notes threadThe mouth fills again with tobacco, but this time more sweetness and wood. Intense, slightly salty and .... well, of course... PeatThe peaty sweetness remains relatively long.Whether a rum necessarily needs an expansion in Islay casks, I do not know. Tasty that is now and then already. Here, however, the P / L does not fit in my opinion.

Hat schon was gut rauchiges schön runder rum. Mit einer gewissen würzigkeit. Da kommt Weihnachtsstimmung auf.

Indeed, hints of soft whiskey with otherwise very round, hatmonish body. Fruckt and sweetness are pleasantly mild, the alcohol comes after a bit peppery in the finish. Fig, date, a bit of roasted almond.
