Travellers Flensburg Rum Company Selected by Jürgen Wiese BTJW 2006
Toasted coconut, milk chocolate and roasted nuts lead here, with caramel, vanilla and a clear bourbon-cask streak running underneath. It's a sweet, oily Belize pot-still at full 68.6% cask strength, and most tasters say the alcohol sits surprisingly well — though almost everyone reaches for a few drops of water to coax out the dried apricot and pineapple fruit. A couple wished for more depth and complexity.
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Coconut and chocolate
- Long warming finish

How does Travellers Flensburg Rum Company Selected by Jürgen Wiese BTJW 2006 taste?
Aggregated from 64 community reviews.
Sweet, coconut-and-chocolate Belize at cask strength Widely liked as one of the better cask-strength Belize 2006 bottlings — coconut, chocolate and caramel with well-tucked heat. The catch: some find it sweet and a touch one-dimensional, short on fruit.
Fans of sweet, nutty cask-strength rum in the Spanish/bourbon-cask style
Anyone sensitive to high ABV or wanting bold, dry, fruit-forward rum

I really liked this particular rum. I like the coconut and and roasted barrel mix. The warm spicy tingle in the palate was nice and the balance with chocolate and nuts was perfect.

Beautiful Belize. But a few drops of water would do it good.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,2:On the nose, the first impression we get is from bourbon cask ageing like roasted wood with nuts, caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate and honey, spices like cinnamon and dried fruits like raisins, apricots and coconut. On aeration, molasses is minty, vanilla stronger.Ok, but no depth. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is similar as on the nose with bourbon notes like oily roasted, toasted wood and coconut, dried apricots, raisins, spices like vanilla, cinnamon. Some pineapple, sour cherry, citrus with orange peel and peach come out after resting, as the molasses is vegetal, floral. Well, it shows 2 faces, one with creamy wood notes like creamy toffee, caramel, as the other, fruity is a bit unpleasant with astringend and menthol notes.Alcohol could be better integrated. 8,2:The finish is long with roasted and dry wood notes, a bit spicy, tannic and tropical, dried fruits, bourbon touch is evidently quite strong..

Tasted together with the RA Belize 2006. I also diluted it a little, as it was quite spicy and alcoholic beforehand. Similar on the nose afterwards. Already intense, but still very soft and sweet - with beautiful ripe fruit behind the vanilla-woody impact. Too flat in the mouth for my taste: woody, roasty, spicy. The finish is woody, but pleasant and surprisingly long. The Flensburger is somewhat spicier and dirtier overall. The profile of the RA with the better balance and more facets.

Another one from Belize, similar but also a bit different. As the other one, I gave it some water which makes the alcohol more approachable, and brings the fruit. To the nose similar, wood, Orange marmelade, some apricot My wife smelled Vanilla, but I am unable to recognize the smell (never have been, or I am just so used to it due to its presence everywhere) myself it seems. On the tongue, wood, spices, sweetness. The Alcohol is quite sharp, unfortunately which I do not like. The taste lingers very long... All in all very good, just the alcohol bitel is not to my taste.

Holznoten ohne viel Bitterkeit. Dunkle Schokolade mit Ananas auf Steroiden. Dazu kommt deutlich Vanille vom Fass.

Viel Schoko und caramel in Geschmack. Sehr leckeres Teil. Sollte man zugreifen. Alkohol ist sehr gut

Ahh mega komplexes scheisserchen.

Review by Thunderbird

Even before nosing and tasting I expect this to be very sweet as the legs move extremely slow to the point of simply sticking to the edge. On the nose you get toasted coconut, dried apricots, raisins and a slight touch of yellow banana. The sweetness is upfront, but it does present itself pleasantly as vanillated custard topped with torched sugar. Continued with dominant malt: roasted nuts, cappuccino and a side of milk chocolate. A hint of fresh mint at the very end. On the palate the sugars turn one-dimensional and the consistency turns oily and creamy (or even sticky) in the throat. The toasted coconut, dried fruits and malt persist, but we get some additional peppers and cinnamon. Alcohol is integrated wonderfully. It drinks well below its ABV. The finish is surprisingly short with some lingering sugars and malt.
Review by RumTaTa

"An incredibly beautiful Spanish-style rum. The high ABV suits it extremely well on the nose, but in my opinion a few drops of water work very well on the palate to open it up and reveal more fruity aromas. I find the bourbon note amazing. I liked it very much! Great selection from the barrel."
