Famille Ricci Caroni Exception 1998
Tar, auto-garage rubber and a "smoky wood" backbone, with dried pineapple and mango that climb out after some air. This is classic 1998 Caroni — heavy hydrocarbons up front, then fruit. A few tasters call it creamy and oily, "étonnamment accessible" for the distillery, with the 63.6% well buried. The finish runs long and slowly shifts. One note found the rubber a touch light.
- Heavy tar
- Tropical fruit depth
- Long evolving finish

Aggregated from 22 community reviews.
Tarry, fruity, oily 23-year Caroni Loved by the people who tasted it — deep tar, smoky oak and tropical fruit, with the high proof well integrated. A couple wished the rubber pushed harder, but most call it a Caroni done right.

This is a very nice Caroni though the rubber note is very light the tar on the other hand is throughout the profile. I like the smoky wood and spices as well as the light fruits. I picked up some chocolate in the empty glass. Overall a well balanced rum with an oily palate. Draws really nice curtains in the glass.

Visit Ricci! Fruity, with hydrocarbon notes in the background. Surprisingly accessible for a Caroni!

Not a caroni expert, but I really liked it! Compared with the others I've tasted, it's less dirty and more fruity, with a very creamy shower finish. Frankly, the alcohol is very well integrated.... It's very good, but for the caroni purists that I'm not, I wouldn't know how to make a comparison.

This Caroni perfectly embodies the DNA of the legendary Trinidad and Tobago distillery, with all the typical markers that connoisseurs are looking for. Nose: Very expressive on hydrocarbons, with that "dirty" side so emblematic of Caroni. After prolonged aeration, delicate fruity notes emerge, subtly reminiscent of a TDL profile. Palate: The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The woodiness blends harmoniously with the fruitiness, bringing complexity without masking power. Finish: Long, intense, yet elegant. Slowly evolving aromatic layers leave a memorable imprint. Conclusion: An exceptional juice, raw, profound, terribly expressive. A true marvel.

Jemnější dehetová chuť, po napití výraznější (opravdu výrazný, ale příjemný) profil v nose, než při ovonění

My first caroni, so my rating depends on my appreciation of the rum without having been able to compare it to others. First nose, we're at tdl, dried exotic fruits, pineapple, mango, among others. As I aerate it, the story begins. Sudden appearance of peaty notes, a very present smoke screen. Smoke is very present, with the smell of a car garage. Fruits then return. It's very evolutionary, because on the second tasting, notes of rubber are very present. The palate confirms the nose but retains the fruity notes throughout. Quite a long finish. Ah, I knew that putting my nose in these caroni would be dangerous ....

Creamy juice with typical woody caroni side of a 98. Lack of rubber to be really great !
