Sipped neat, it drinks surprisingly mild for 58% — several tasters note the alcohol is nearly invisible. Overripe banana, kiwi, pineapple and the usual glue-and-ester Hampden signature, all sitting on a dry, slightly sour, citrus-lemon base. Let it breathe and the fruit turns into what one member calls a fruit grenade. A few drops of water free up even more. Dry finish with a smoky, medicinal edge.

This Hampden makes use of the typical Jamaica aromas. It is not particularly funky, but rather buttery and creamy on the palate. The acidity already mentioned by many is also present in my palate in the form of a grapefruit-honeydew melon hybrid. Doesn't bother me too much. The finish is rather short and runs out a little with a smoky medicinal lemon. Delicious in itself, but somehow the flavors clash and seem incongruous/unbalanced. Second tasting: -1 point

The nose promises a lot of fruit and funk at first, but taste-wise for me personally it's too little fruit and too much anise, marzipan, glue, and also a somewhat disturbing acidity that I don't really like. Overall just not the Hampden aroma I like; the 92 Hampden can do much more and is more complex... at the back some bacon, brine, burnt notes, as well as overripe banana and kiwi. I just don't really warm up to this one even on the third try.

Had a nice evening with friends and a few good rums. Once rested this is a really nice and fruity release. I like the funk and esters in the profile and also the citrus notes in the background. Overall pretty good but the price is too high in my opinion.

Nose focused on citrus-ey and sour notes. Most Funk on the nose out of the group. Most astringent and funky one on the palate. So far I liked all out of the 2001 <>H batch. Looking at a close field: KD > TB > RC-M > RC Sidenote: makes an excellent Mai Tai.

Brought back from the 10th GRF. It was already convincing there and prevailed over some other Hampdens, not least due to its PLV. Overall, a more relaxed representative of the Hampden faction, but not boring. Very dry, but less astringent due to its pith and lower esters. Almost no alcohol present, despite the 58% alcohol content. All in all, very round and delicious! It simply drinks itself away quickly ;-)

Beautiful citrus fruits, overripe banana and esters on the nose. Quite dry on the palate with pleasant bitter notes. Very well integrated alcohol. Top value for money (at the issue price)!

8,8:On the nose, esters, glue, hints of iodine, funky, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like kiwi, banana, pineapple, vinegar, sour, some citrus fruits, roasted wood notes like cookie dough, vanilla, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, green fruits arise, the molasses is grassy, flowery, dairy hints show up, roasted notes with crème brûlée, roasted nuts, cream toffee, pastry, hints of bacon and baking spices. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is funky with esters, glue, intense, dry with roasted wood notes, smoky, burnt(bacon) like burnt sugar, caramelized, sweet, pastry, spicy with allspice, vanilla, fruity with fermented tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, kiwi and citrus fruits, some candied, dairy hints, creamy and the molasses is herbaceous, floral, vegetal with briny olive. 8,7:The finish is long, dry&tannic, medicinal, chemical, fruity with fermented fruits, some candied, the molasses is vegetal and the wood roasted, smoky and spicy. Oh yes, this Hampden is really good again. I'm already in double digits when it comes to Hampden :) Also here great tropical fruits (pineapple and banana), as well as esters and glue. Awesome stuff.

It already convinced me at the 10th GRF. Nose: totally balanced mix of fruit and ester. Very nice notes of tangerine/lemon and somewhat sweet-sour, towards kiwi and gooseberry. Delicious! Plus a fine, tart sweetness of maple syrup and the obligatory vinegar note, which is not intrusive here at all. Palate: Very round and balanced. Pleasant esters, a slight bitterness of lime peel and again the kiwi. Nice glue with polish. Behind that a bit of malt, a little bitter almond, anise and even bacon hints. A totally good Hampden that has it all.

Overripe banana, kiwi, you immediately notice the typical HD ester notes here, still very mild on the nose. The ester notes also wonderfully run through the taste and finish, which is quite dry. When the rum has breathed a bit, it develops an intense fruit bomb that couldn't be more intense. For a rating over 90, only a better integration of the alcohol is missing.

Relatively direct on the nose, round and pleasant. But on the tongue furry and too sour for me. Not really my taste neat. Water helps here and releases quite a few aromas.

Verdict: a dignified high-ester rum, with quite some years (also continental?). It's rich, well-balanced between ester, fruit, sugar and some smoky note ik the end. 86 points. Nose: Rather cake-y for such a high ester rum. As in soft cake with whipped cream, sugar, overripe banana, a but of pineapple, quite some glue, ester, and a whiff of mint. Palate: pleasant, warming, with intense banana notes, glue, wood, vanilla, sugar, syrup, spice and menthol. Finish: quite long, and a nice combination of medicinal/ester, fruit and roasted, even a smoky note. Olives, brine, a bit of petrol and smoke, banana custard, pineapple, a hint of lacquered wood, spice and esters.

A very good <>H, but I expected more from it. Lots of pineapple, esters and glue. In nose and palate you also have notes of cookie dough. On the palate clearly more complex, but also with a slight acidity. Alcohol really well integrated.

I like it - nose much fruitier than the taste; flavor-wise then riper and drier and quite sweet. Taking the Hampden 8 as a baseline, this one is clearly much more elegant and way better.

I would say that this rum is a typica Hampden! Has all the funk a flavors (banana, pineapple and papaya, a rocky/mineral sent on the nose) along with a fresh lemony note right upfront. To me, it is not the most ester-y of all the Hampden I’ve ever tried, although it is a very nice one indeed. The finish is long and satisfying.

Unlike the Ed24, the more exciting and powerful nose. I like it when the Ester marches forward. On the palate, less balanced and a little less complexity. But I like it very much. Maybe even a bit better than the 24 as more lively and a bit drier. Here I would have liked more of... 🤦♂️
