Sipped neat, this is a well-aged Martinique agricole that leans woody and dry: fresh sugarcane and orange up front, then oak, spice and caramel, with a grassy vegetal backbone that says agricole loud and clear. Tasted this rum at my recent visit to the Depaz Distillery in Martinique very beautiful situated at the slopes of the Mount Pelee volcano. It’s a very good rum, but it can’t compete with older white labeled Grande Reserve. The nose is spicy, woody, sweet and fruity with scents of chocolate, licorice, vanilla, oak, sugarcane and prune. At the palate it’s full bodied, balanced, soft, complex, spicy, sweet and woody with flavors of vanilla, sugarcane and oak. The finish is long, spicy and woody.

From VSOP to XO. Instantly tropical but also red fruits. Ripe cherry. Woody. Port. Orange. Impressive on the nose. Taste: again a tad dryer. Bitterness. The wood is more present. Sweet too. Fruity. Red fruits. Prunes. Tannins. Needs time to get usef to the dryness to get more fruit. Interesting tasting from white to XO. Every step is different from the one before but not taking it to a very different direction but rather adding delicate layers. Good good stuff.

At first, a nose that has a lot to tell us. Vegetal and earthy accents greet us pleasantly on this first nose. It leads to citrus fruits, which gradually transform into exotic fruits like papaya and passion fruit. Despite its age, hints of fresh cane juice bring a lot of freshness. Strangely, I sensed wild strawberries at the end of the nose and some woodiness. Everything is coated in flowing caramel and vanilla. Really very interesting. On the palate, yet another explosion of flavors and complexity: more stewed exotic fruits, some spicy peppers, softer things like vanilla, caramel, and also the vegetal notes of tobacco leaves. The finish is average but pleasant, on woodiness and kitchen spices.

Vanilla, roasted oak, orange, cocoa, dried fruits and fine spices create a deep, harmonious profile that reveals new facets over time. Despite the intense barrel aging, the typical sugarcane character remains. An elegant, complex Agricole.

Not bad for an XO, quite round and balanced (without being perfect in this look either). The aftertaste is a bit short in my opinion compared to the Saint James XO but on the other hand the taste is maybe a bit stronger at first in the mouth. A correct XO blend but not exciting. But for the price we do not complain. Good material for a rum <> as the English say, a rum for every day when we preferred to drink without pretensions.

A blend of 8 and 10-year-old rums that offers a nice balance of maturity and subtlety. On the nose there are some bourbon notes, vanilla, and fruitwood like cherry, along with honey and milk chocolate. The palate follows with citrus, caramel, and a mix of fruit and spice. The finish stays true to agricole's vegetal roots with notes of grass, herbs, anise, and intensely dried plums. A well-balanced rum that might surprise with its unexpected smoothness.

For the price this comes at you get a bang for your buck. A great rum in this price range. Make sure you rest it because it will release a lot of extra flavours. The nose is very fresh and fruity with sugarcane, wood and caramel trailed by vanilla and chocolate. The palate is fresh, sweet and wonderfully fruity with smoky wood, caramel, grass and chocolate. The finish is medium to long and lightly dry with wood, fruits and vanilla.

Of the three aged Vieux, VSOP, and XO, this one is my favorite. Strange because I usually prefer fresher bottlings. Here too, little remains of the fresh lime fruitiness of the distillate and light acidity. But the cask notes reach an intensity in the XO that somehow makes it interesting again.

Wow, I really like this one. Nice vanilla and caramel notes on the nose, continues on the palate, I also find this rum slightly spicy. Slightly sweet, but that's exactly how it should be. Alcohol well integrated. Delicious.

This XO is also a credit to Depaz. While the nose may hint at VSOP with its spices and fruits, the palate on the other hand shows a profile much more turned towards floral, vegetal and grassy notes that add character. A smoky flavor adds to this rum with balanced and complex flavors. The finish is more marked than the VSOP, drier and fruitier. A very good agricultural XO.

A very spicy agricole rum on the palate, a bit too much for me. The woody and roasted side is also very present and softens everything. I was very surprised by the VSOP which was very good compared to others, here I'm a bit disappointed.

The smell is nice, you can easily distinguish aniseed, it really reminds sambuca. The taste is soft at the beginning, but I miss the "body", it continues directly with a very nice ending, which is woody and you can taste orange in chocolate. I am convinced, that somebody can enjoy this rum.

My first Agricole rhum , very aromatic and rich, mainly dominated by a lot of tropical fruits, fresh figs, passion fruit, maracuja then nuts and wood on the finish, delicious grass of Agricole. I recommend stocking up on some wonderful rhum from Martinique.

Sugar plum on the nose. A hint of mosquito repellent maybe, paraffin. Potpourri. Pours dark copper. Wood really takes over in the mouth on this one. A little bit lemon starts to appear in the mouth after the glass opens up a bit. Pretty dry though. Had a glass at Minetta Tavern.

The nose is slightly pungent with notes of unripe red and other tropical fruits, varnished wood, tobacco, leather and cocoa. The palate is consistent with the nose and re-presents all the same aromas with added spice, dates, light roasting and a bit of red wine (opened hours ago) on the finish. The texture is light and lively, although it is not deep, surprising in its delicacy and personality (objectively the rating is a bit lower). In the empty glass intense aged hints.

The thing is beautifully round. I'm happy to drink Agricole. Great balance. One notices the longer maturation compared to the VSOP. In the nose predominantly fruit with orange it becomes on the palate then more floral-spicy, even if fruit still remains present. The whole underlaid with some sweetness. Really pleasant.

Nose: very fruity. I mainly perceive orange. But also unmistakable Agricole notes. Added to that are subtle vanilla and wood notes. Taste: a lot from the nose is found here, but in different proportions. The spice and especially the Agricole notes are at the forefront for me. They are accompanied by a pleasant sweetness as well as fruit and wood notes. Towards the end, it is a bit bitter. You don't taste the alcohol at all. For only 45%, there's really a lot going on here. I bought the bottle blind back then after I really liked the J.M XO. Definitely need to test the two against each other. Really like it. I'm happy to have a whole bottle of this! Makes you want the higher-priced bottles.

A fruity xo, banana on the nose. Peach on the nose too. A relatively complex nose that reveals itself with aeration. 2nd tasting the next day, less banana, more citrus (orange zest). A certain freshness, like the 2002. The palate is more vegetal, with thyme in particular, but the fruit remains present. Chocolate too. A well-made dilution that doesn't break the rum. A notch above all the Martinique xo I've just tried (James, Mauny, Clement). A price perhaps higher too, except for the Mauny. Justified for me given the quality. Compared to the 2002 vintage, the 2002 is clearly more woody, despite the long opening of the 2 keels, and I'd also say that there's more concentration in the 2002. But I still prefer the xo for its finer woodiness. Very pleasant medium finish.

This is delicious. Really, really delicious. Grassy, burny, little bit smokey, little brown sugar but real dry. I’m a big fan. It’s really, really nice. I’m absolutely not getting liquorice like everyone else.

From the very first nose, Agricole rum is immediately recognizable: the cane is powerful, and the woodiness is clearly present. On the palate, the attack is very appreciable, the rum very well balanced, the 45° not at all aggressive. The woody, cane notes are still present. Spicy notes are also present on the finish, which is quite long.

Oh yes, this is definitely a powerful agricole rum! It holds on for a long time, damn. For me, it's one of the best I've had the chance to taste. On the nose and palate, a floral explosion. Then the Depaz house agricole rum does its work. Honestly, a rum to have in your collection.
