Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with the evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Nose: papaya, mango & bitter orange, leather, smoke, cinnamon, mango, oak wood, a bit of menthol, burnt wood, herbs like thyme or chamomile, very round and warm. After a long time, herbs dominate more than smoke. Taste: strong, intense, dirty, burnt rubber, incense, cinnamon, menthol, thyme, bitter orange & papaya, a bit of sour cherry, sage/chamomile tea, medicinal... the 64% ABV is extremely well integrated, overall a rather fruity, cinnamon Caroni, which I really like! In the finish, the typical smoky Caroni aroma lingers really long with menthol. Amazing. For me, a perfect symbiosis of fruit and dirty rubber and smoke notes, that's how I like Caroni rum! PS: as perverse as it sounds, a daiquiri with muscovado sugar syrup made with this tastes like Calippo Cola ice cream 😅🤤

Comparably lighter and more approachable profile. More heavy on roasted and fruity notes. Maintains a little more dirt compared to other early 1998 Caronis, however. Nice complexity and evolution on the palate keeps it interesting.

Wonderfully relaxed Caroni. Just the thing for a summer in front of the balcony. 😊For me in the same pleasant, still affordable league as the Caroni of C. Dully from Switzerland (RX11715).Update 2022-12-09:Nah, is still a bit better than the C. Dully, because simply more power for the aroma transport to my nose and palate. At least as good as the Ultimatum, but even slightly more appealing because of the expressive power and therefore also upgraded from 88 to 90 points.Worthy rum for today's Caroni Day. 👍👍

A very nice and well balanced release. Draws really nice curtains i the glass and has the traditional Caroni flavours. The empty glass is really wonderful and full of flavours.

A very eye-catching Caroni among the 1998s. The nose is superb, a beautiful expression combining dirty and oil notes, exotic fruit and a honeyed, sweet, candied sweetness. Spices and copper accompany the oak. The aromas here offer a generous bouquet, both lively and greedy. On the palate, the pastry part fades away in favor of a powerful build-up of tropical fruit. The latter are suave and bring a welcome sweetness to the palate, which is livelier. Hydrocarbon and metallic notes combine with spices to create a warm, inviting blend. The alcohol is extremely well integrated. The finish is long and round. Exotic fruits are surprisingly present, competing with empyreumatic, spicy and woody notes to give a very tasty Caroni. A nice surprise among the late distillery's latest bottlings, available at a "reasonable" price.

In my opinion, a totally underrated Caroni. Fruity, dirty and a little more sweet than expected. The 64% are perfectly integrated and give the rum a decent power. Update: A few points deducted. A tad more medicinal compared to other Caronis from Velier. Nevertheless, it is still of a high standard and in the world of Caronis, the price-performance ratio is still reasonably good.

Very delicious balanced Caroni. Alcohol is integrated very good. Tar and wood is not to dominant as in other Caroni. For me the best of Bellamy’s!! Similar to the Colors of Rum with very red-fruity notes. The typical dirtiness with tar, rubber etc. is more of a supporting actor at first, but then becomes more and more apparent. This rum is significantly drier than the Colors of Rum. Also a great rum!

Tasted again after a long time and still delicious. But in direct comparison with its tropical cousins, I have to downgrade it again ... a nice continental 98 and the barrel experiment was relatively successful here

On the nose tar, rubber and smoke, plus dark spices and some leather. On the palate clearly more complex with wood, spices, bitter sweetness and a pronounced, dirty Caroni note. Sometimes a bit wild and not quite round, which gives the rum character but also takes away some harmony. Overall an exciting, intense bottling with depth that deliberately remains edgy.

Unexpected and uncharacteristic of Caroni, but very well integrated between tar and rubber fruit notes. The finish is astringent and leaves some mint on the palate. The 64% is excellently integrated and makes the rum a flavor bomb. By the fact that here not only dirt, but also fruits are there I can imagine the rum quite as a "beginner Caroni".

A powerful and sweet nose, mechanical workshop and tropical fruits. Warm and alcoholic yet fresh at the same time. A very beautiful nose. The palate is full-bodied, powerful but remains balanced. Here too, as on the nose, the balance of tropical fruits, mechanical workshop, and wood is excellent. The finish is long, with that same balance. You find the same aromas on the nose, palate, and finish.

Quite complex, pointed sweetness, recognizable smokiness from the whisky cask - not uninteresting. Has something distinctive, stands out positively not only in direct comparison with other representatives of the 1998 vintage, but also in cross-tasting with other continentally aged Caronis. Very good release.

Caroni in the nose, although not in top form. The 64% suits him well. Burnt plastic and rubber are present first, but behind that there is also a tart sweetness of still green mango and some caramel. Then already comes a distinct vinegar note and leather with old vanilla powder. Woody and slightly smoky it is also. Out the back again sweet, burnt sugar and syrup.The 64% is also very good on the palate. They drive the flavors wonderfully into the mouth. Slightly astringent, the nice dirty things come first: burnt, sweet plastic and rubber. This quickly transitions into sweet, soft licorice and becomes slightly nutty. Kind of fruity too, maybe some cherry and papaya..The finish is left with plastic, rubber and soft licorice.I like this one already....

The dirty Caroni notes are present, though not very pronounced. Plus roasted notes, slightly nutty, somewhat fruity. Alcohol is well integrated. Slightly smoky finish which bothered me a bit. Otherwise a good bottling.

On the nose furniture polish comes to mind, after some time also red wine barrel, pipe tobacco, a certain honey sweetness and dried herbs. Toasty notes and tar/gum on the palate. The alcohol is surprisingly well integrated for the 64%.

A good Caroni, at the start vanilla comes immediately with not too dirty, nice gourmand notes, not very complex and the alcohol is moderately well integrated in the mouth, with a slight lack of length, but you still have a very good moment! I like this cherry aroma.

Thanks to Daniel for this blind tasting. I like this rum from start to finish. Great nose with sweet, spicy, and woody influences, which are also found in the taste. Very long and intense finish. Alcohol well integrated. I guess a tropical aged Guyana rum :) Resolution: actually Caroni, where the typical dirty notes are not so strong. Absolute recommendation for this rum.

This is a very good Caroni. Not very intense but complex and nice. Was in a bar so my review is a bit limited with the notes. Dark. Fruity. Some filth. Nice. טעימה בבר. קארוני טוב מאוד. מתוק. פירות רקובים. עור ולכלוך. היו הרבה סיגרים בבר היה קשה באמת להתרשם אבל נהנתי מאוד סך הכל. לא כל כך עוצמתי כמו חלק מהקארונים אבל זה טוב לפעמים.

Tasted at GRF2025 and I want to thank again the donor of the sample, but I'm no longer sure who brought it. It was Friday evening and it was busy. My main impressions saved were that it is a very smooth, accessible Caroni. All markers of the 98 are there and very well integrated. I liked it very much and would love to have a bottle.

A fascinating, atypically fruity Caroni. The nose surprises with mango and papaya before the familiar heavy Caroni profile of leather, smoke and menthol breaks through. On the palate extremely powerful and intense with a solid 64%. Here the fruit pairs with bitter herbal notes like sage and chamomile tea, underlined by medicinal incense. The finish smoky and medicinal. A balanced, easy-drinking Caroni that feels heavy but with that certain extra.

Right after pouring, I thought at first sniff that this was another 1998 Caroni driven by medicinal and dirty notes, but the color should have told me better. The dirty side quickly recedes and over time turns into a gently smoky leather background, in front of which more and more floral and fruity doors open. Very round and accessible on the palate, between tropical fruits, mint, rubber, and antiseptic tar cream, with the 64% ABV excellently integrated at the same time. Great rum! With a more lasting finish, it would be right at the top for me.

Very good Caroni, not too salty, beautiful gourmand notes, not super complex and the alcohol is a bit violent on the palate, with a slight lack of length, but still a very good time!

Hmm again a good caroni with some flaws. Dark notes of tar and menthol in the nose that don't appear tasting it. Just some tar residue in a sweet fruit compot. A long spicy and warm finish, this does few tricks well.
