You might expect a white agricole to be all fresh grass, but this one leans richer — honey, beeswax, lime zest and a jammy, almost fermented sweetness from the extra-long five-day fermentation. At 60% it drinks hot and wild; a few tasters found it less crisp than other blancs but more distinctive for that confit-fruit side. Sings in a Ti' Punch.

This is a really nice release and I have tried a few of the white rums from Labat and most of them are really good. This one has a very fresh profile with an intense and dry profile. It needs time to rest before it releases all its flavours. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and I like the empty glass where the honey note gets even stronger. Price to quality is very good in my mind.

Edit: I bought a bottle (despite the price for white rum) and I must say it keeps convincing me with its intensity, its sweetness, this slightly macerated or even fermented jam (surely linked to the 5 days of fermentation - the maximum for a Martinique AOC agricole rum) and this wild side brought by the 60°. Nice, this white rum is less fresh than others but it has a fruity and especially jammy side that sets it apart. The 60° make it intense but maybe a few degrees less or a bit more rest would make it rounder...?

Crass! Alcohol top integrated, aromatic as if agricoles & rockley meet. Beeswax, honey, incense and citrus as well as tropical fruit and some mint. Very very awesome. An absolute blast in the Ti Punch as well. So far nothing comparable aromatically drunk to agricole!

Once again, a Pere Labat (which I don't normally like) but which surprises me in a very pleasant way. An agricultural nose but also hints of olive and sun-dried tomato, remarkable. More classic on the palate, with a finish reminiscent of aniseed or licorice, it is fresh, with a certain sweetness. Excellent.

The nose is very vegetal and floral. The fruit is barely visible, with a hint of lemon zest. The palate is full and unctuous, more to my taste than the nose. The cane is greedy. A hint of spice adds complexity.

We start the ball rolling with the aperitif: a Ti’Punch with Labat Bio 2021 – 60%. First Père Labat rum certified Organic Agriculture, made by Jean-Cédric Brot (owner of the estate since 2007). This project, initiated three years earlier by planting organic cane on virgin lands of Marie-Galante, resulted in a rum whose fermentation was deliberately extended: five days instead of three. The distillate was then reduced to reach an alcohol content of 60%. Nose: agricultural, with notes of vanilla, pepper, and citrus. Palate: warm, vanilla, herbal, fresh. Personally, I preferred the parcel-specific one, more original and surprising, with its animal side. But this Bio remains a good agricole, punchier than the 52% version.
