The olive is the surprise here — several tasters get green olive and even tapenade alongside fresh sugarcane, cut grass and light lime. It's an unaged white from Grenada that drinks like a clean agricole, vegetal and floral with a peppery bite. Most enjoy it, though a few note the 50% alcohol isn't fully tucked in. One member likened it to "a dirty Clairin with olive."

05.08.2022 A nice afternoon with other rum geeks and an evening visiting a few bars. Notres Transparent in colour. Nose Fresh, fruity, apple, vegetal, light citrus, faint minerals. Palate Oily, round, warm, apple, fruity, light citrus, medium spicy, cinnamon, light herbs. Finish Medium long, fresh, oily, fruits, light citrus, medium spicy, light herbs.

Tried with white Jagsttaler. The rum alone is but also mega, I love olives. Tasted again separately not so far from a dirty Clairin with olive. Alcohol not ideally integrated.

It's an Agricole as it is written in the book. Not really mine, but it's still delicious. This rum is predominantly herbal and floral. You can also detect grass and olive. Not a must-have, but nice to have it.

The last of the 5 pre-casks.Nose: here again the fermented fruit and fruit esters but the honey sweetness more to the fore. Raspberry and juicy pear. More pleasing than the others. Palate: oha, kind of fruity but rather muted. A slight licorice note comes quickly with a slightly bitter root nuance. Slightly sweet with grassy sugar cane and the licorice on the finish.Very interesting how similar yet different they all are. A very nice result

"Etudes" - as the name suggests, you are part of a study here. Certainly interesting and a category of its own, the vegetal nose with olives, pepper and floral notes is not often found in this intensity. On the palate, the rum continues and adds fruity notes, unfortunately the alcohol is not well integrated. Overall solid, but smaller bottles would do as well and could also let the rum lover become part of a long-term study.

An explosion of white truffle as if opening a jar containing this precious delicacy. On the second nose, you smell fresh sugar cane enhanced by a strong scent of virgin olive oil. On the palate, it’s spicy, pepper and/or chili. It’s gripping and stays long in the mouth, always with that olive paste like after a small toast of tapenade. Good to very good and surprising.

The BottleKill tonight: Renegade Pre-Cask Pearls 1st release (50%) Mark Reynier settled in Grenada, in the Caribbean, in the mid-2010s, with the goal of reproducing the success of his terroir whisky distilleries — Bruichladdich in Scotland (sold to Rémy Cointreau) and Waterford in Ireland. Supported by investors, he built with his teams a modern distillery on the former British colony and undertook to revive sugarcane cultivation. The Renegade range was resolutely terroir-focused, with pure cane juice rums, vintage, often single parcel and single variety. Much has already been written about Renegade; let's summarize the key points here: Rum based on cane juice from the terroir. Total control of the chain, from seed to bottle. Rather than buying an existing distillery, Reynier chose to build one from scratch. The goal is to find the ideal combination between terroir, cane variety, yeast, distillation and type of cask. A particularly remarkable aspect of the project is transparency. Each bottle has a "CaneCode" accessible online that allows access to a wealth of details on harvest, fermentation and distillation. Cane harvest: 2020 Juice pressing: 2020 Fermentation: temperature controlled Distillation: double retort still Bottling: 50% for 1,632 bottles Renegade describes the terroir of the Pearls cuvée as: "Just south of the distillery, an intriguing terroir between mangrove and wet meadow, with a volcanic laterite bank rich in iron. The Yellow Lady cane grows vigorously on this clay-rich Woburn & Perseverance soil, with high water retention." This rare, very sweet and precipitation-demanding variety gives fruity and complex notes on the nose and palate, with a medium-long finish. But how is it in the glass? Nose: fresh and vegetal, lime notes, fermented/medicinal touches, with an olive finish. Palate: thick, creamy, vegetal, olive still present. Finish: short and slightly disappointing on honey.

Interesting on the nose, fermented, fruity, vegetal. The taste is more rum-like, with sugarcane sweetness, vegetal notes. It has some interesting details, but far from harmony.
