Neisson Profil 62 (65 ans LMDW)

Agricole fans curious about young new-oak aging will find the most to chew on here. It's a one-year Neisson from cane juice: cut hay, fresh grass and mint up front, then vanilla, honey and spice from the new American oak. Tasters call it an "easy sipper" that's pleasant and balanced, though several note it drinks lighter than its 49.2% suggests.

#20 RumXCalendar Blind tasting: N: Agricole, sugarcane, fresh, young wood, sweet, honey M: fresh, vegetal, chocolate, honey F: oak, sweet, dry, young wood Prediction: this is an agricole for sure, hard to name the destillery, approx. 45% and max. 10 years …. It‘s an easy sipper. A good rum for beginner-advanced. Nothing really special. Nose: agricole, fresh, vegetal, minty, sugarcane, sweet, honey, young wood, spice Mouth: agricole, fresh, vegetal, grass, creamy, intense, dry, woody, chocolate, vanilla, honey, sugarcane, light Finish: short, woody(oak), vanilla, young wood, herbal, sweet

RumXmas #20, blind: Nose: honey, bourbon (vanilla), sugar cane, oak and a bit of spices (pepper/ginger) Mouth: tastes like an agricole for me, but no “heavy” agricole (bit of grappa but not that much compared to other agricoles) with fresh grassy notes, grapes, plums, dried fruits, light wood. Feels a bit thin but could be misleading. So not sure about the ABV. Would guess under 50% Finish: vegetal, fresh, grassy, young wood Because of the bourbon aspects in the nose, it reminds me a bit of the HSE American barrel that we had before in the advent calendar. But I can’t really say what country. Hell, maybe it’s even something fresh cane juice from Foursquare 🤷‍♂️ Feedback from this: what I identified as “bourbon” was probably new oak wood. Keep on tasting, learning and experiencing 😊

RumX-Adventskalender, 20.12., blind.

Nose: the alcohol is strong in you, young pada-rum (poor quote, here!). Then, I’m starting to get some spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, maybe ginger), along with a subtle nutty flavor (hazelnut and/or chestnut). It slowly evolves into what I sense as sweet citrus, maybe candied orange peel. The herbal/fresh note becomes more present. Palate: the very same candied orange peel is what I get right off the bat, followed by light wood. Then it develops into something more fresh and grassy. On the fruity side, I still get (with the help of water) raisins.

Day 20 in the Advent calendar and today again something fresh An Agricole with a nice floral profile. Now that I know what it is I also taste the bourbon barrel stronger out. Has gained considerable influence after only one year. Really pleasant to drink, can be fun. Now I must necessarily times to unaged Neisson ran. Can already taste the Ti Punch 😁

In the 20th RX- Calendar sample today a Neisson (correctly typed). Aromas of grass and plants, mint, young wood. Overall a bit more subtle than the previous Agricole in the calendar. On the palate also rather mild, Young wood, Honey, Vegetable. Alcohol well integrated.

Neisson

Avg Rating 8.4/10 240 Rums

Neisson is the smallest distillery on Martinique, making under 2 percent of the island's rum, and one of only two still in family hands. Run today by Claudine Vernant Neisson and her son Gregory, it distils on a 1952 all-copper Savalle still, ferments with its own native yeast, and makes what many call the island's finest white rhum. The community rates its aged bottlings among the very best agricole there is.
