Most tasters land in the same happy place: this is a classic Versailles, all pencil shavings, anise and herbs with yellow fruit and a wet, woody edge. One member called it "a very austere and spirit forward Versailles," and several are surprised how little the 30 years shows — good fruit, gentle sweetness, tannins only at the tail. The one gripe: a couple wanted more bite.

Cross Tastinge across 12 bottlings of 1990 Versialles destilled Enmores. Looking at the cask strength / 50%+ ABV bottlings in the line up (CG, DT, Duchess, Greenheart I & II, RdL, Sponge, TWJ), all deliver on the classic Versailles notes: Pencil, herbs/anis, some continental fruits and a wet/moldy woodiness. Quality wise I don’t see an outlier tbh, all very enjoyable. Noticeable, however, is a very intense nose on the Sponge, which adds lots of resin and „woody“ notes to the mix,probably paying tribute to its (partly) maturation in wine casks. This is clearly outstanding out of the batch. Bonus points for the older Greenheart and TWJ for highest intensity on the (continental) fruit notes for me. DT and The Duchess gravitating more towards spicy notes in the mix. Same overall verdict for the palate. All rums in the batch are of high quality and there is no dramatic outlier (good or bad), except for the Rum Sponge. While I enjoyed the nose, on the palate the bottling is overwhelmed by wine notes. As for a lot of finished/double matured releases I just don’t see the point and here don’t like it particularly. Among the other bottlings: the DT is particularly nicely balanced with a pleasant sweetness working nicely with herbal and more darker notes. Very enjoyable. My favorite on the palate is probably the younger Greenheart (at least in this sitting). Almost as balanced as the DT but with a bit more anise and herbal notes for a bit more excitement. The older Greenheart is also very nice, with a bit less sweetness yet also very nicely balanced. TWJ and The Duchess are overall a bit more in the harsher side concerning alcohol integration, yet still very good. Very strong bottlings of the vinatage overall and a pleasure to have some side by side. Cheers to Alex for curating (most of) the tasting set! 🙌

Very round profile with the typical Versailles pencil notes. In addition to these somewhat metallic-mineral wood notes, nice hints of tea, subtle sweetness, anise, licorice and yellow fruits. The alcohol is impressively well integrated - the profile is almost easy sipping at this alcohol strength, meaning very balanced, yet aromatically complex at the same time. Excellent barrel selection!

on the nose beautiful notes of yellow fruit, clove, anise and fresh herbs. The palate is very intense and concentrated, with ginger, pepper and cherry wood.

#5458 06.07.2025 Enjoying a few samples after the birthday guests have left and that is really needed 😊 Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, light dried fruit, light clove, faint licorice, light orange, faint smoke. Palate Oily, round, balanced, wood, light tannins, light orange, faint vegetal, faint ginger, light salt, light herbal. Finish Long, woody, light smoke, light tannins, light salt, light ginger, faint coffee, faint honey. Empty glass Light chocolate, faint smoke, light herbal, light ginger, light polish.

Very nice Enmore! Surprisingly little cask influence for its age. Nose and taste are very close together with tropical fruits and esters. Only in the finish does the age become noticeable with notes and tannins. Very tasty! Second tasting: Unchanged good, but today I particularly notice the sweetness. A great rum!

... Enmore - drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excite lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.
