"Waow, complexe pour mon petit palais," as one taster put it — and that's the story here. Wall-to-wall Hampden funk: overripe pineapple and banana, sharp esters, glue and solvent, then olive brine, marzipan and toasted wood. At 67.4% the alcohol sits surprisingly well-integrated. Several found it slightly astringent on the finish, but the empty glass the next morning wins people over.

An absolutely stunning nose, I haven't smelled such a beautiful one in a long time. Lots of fruit on the palate – mainly papaya, kiwi, and fermented nectarine. The finish has flavors of burnt rubber. However, it's already quite strong for my taste.

Unquestionably the benchmark for Swell de Spirits. The nose is incredibly delicate for a Jamaican. Ripe tropical fruits open the ball, closely followed by harmonious notes of esters, solvents and glue. The nose gives off gourmet pastry flavors of marzipan, brioche and butter, with an almost fermented edge. Brine and olive add character, while lemon zest, caramel and vanilla round off this ample, generous and delicate profile. A true success that can be sniffed for hours. The attack on the palate is absolutely divine. The integration of alcohol approaches perfection. From tropical fruit to phenolic notes, caramel, marzipan, olive, peppery wood and rubber, the concentrated aromas blend perfectly to create a coherent, harmonious, deep and complex whole. The finish is very long, at once intense with funky fruit, phenolic and medicinal notes, and more delicate with dark chocolate, licorice and a salty, briny edge. Light roasted notes amplify the gourmand sensation. The rum sticks to the palate with its magnificent aromas, much to our delight. A rum with an assertive character, yet full of sweetness, that lives up to its reputation. A true standard-bearer for both Swell de Spirits and the Hampdens of this mark and vintage.

So after the TRC2001 and the V&M2014 Sta(r)um now a tropical <>H stored from 2011 from Swell. Tropical simply remains tropical. In my opinion, this is the strongest of them all. Pretty tasty, a real hit at the price at the time. Unfortunately didn't get a bottle of it.

#4097 Looking at the price tag you get a lot for your money with this release. Intense and fruity yet well balanced once rested. All the elements are very well balanced and I like the light nutty note. The empty glass is really nice and I can find some chocolate and a light smoky note.

on the nose comes less the blatant fermented yogurt / vinegar notes as in the Flens JMC HD (which is in the other glass for comparison, with C<>H ggü <>H), instead more tropical fruits like pineapple, kiwi and papaya, besides also caramel and cake. The palate offers tropical fruits as well as something spicy and meaty. A certain astringency in the finish. It remains to be said that the Swell was an absolute bargain at the issue price (which I now regret not having bought a bottle).

Ok, so the reputation of this rum was not undeserved! A nose of incredible richness: fruits, esters, olive, funky, fermented, apple, etc. You could stay there for hours. On the palate, it explodes! The proof is there, the wood too, but they blend with fruits, chili, chocolate. It's crazy. And it lasts in the mouth, it's long, pleasantly bitter and hard. A great rum. Lucky are those who own a bottle!

Great Hampden with a filigree spectrum of aromas. The expected tropical fruits meet wood, spices, subtle sweetness and mineral-bitter olive and licorice notes. With a little more expressive sweet notes, even a higher rating would have been possible, but even so remains a very good rum to state.

Simply wow, a world-class Hampden here from Swell. Fermented and overripe tropical fruits, of course clear, pineapple and banana, and, well of course, esters. But solvent notes are also noticeable. And the alcohol is integrated perfectly. Wow.

Wow - a real beast! Even the nose surprises with delicate notes of vanilla and caramel alongside the typical markers. On the palate, the full H-impact hits, lasting looong into the finish.

Another marvel from Swell. Nice nose, excellent on the palate even though at first you can feel a bit of alcohol, and after airing for 25/30 minutes it's even better, and a very nice length (well, nothing surprising with an H). Honestly, I love it, very nice selection 😍 It's delicious 😋

Very extensive profile: spicy, earthy, somewhat medicinal, fermented fruit basket, plum, but also sweet cookies and licorice. Tip: The aroma in an empty glass the next day is a real treat!

This bottler is becoming my best buddy. And combined with Jamaica again did not disappoint. The spectrum of fruity aromas is wide, like a morning fruit market. And the taste is no less rich. Tropical fruit, wood and a bit of spice at the end. I'm thrilled!

A great Hampden with superb quality-price ratio. The texture is top for a fairly young rum. Lots of fruit and indulgence. Quite a bit of esters. One regret: only bought one bottle and sampled part of it.

Dégustation d'un sample de 3cl. 👃 Un Hampden comme je les aime ; des esters vibrants, ananas et banane surmûris à souhait, vernis, solvants et colle blanche, confiseries à la pâte d'amandes. Un peu en retrait, de la pomme verte coupée en cube, saupoudrée de graines de vanille fraîche et de canelle. Enfin, un aspect fermentaire, presque lactique, mais aussi des olives vertes dans leur saumure. Le nez se termine par l'odeur de chambre à air neuve de vélo. 😋 Pouah ! Quelle claque ! Bouche aux saveurs exquises ; toujours le combo ananas et banane surmûris, des esters vifs et éclatants, chaleur pimentée de l'alcool, miel caramélisé, pâte de fruits de la grand-mère. La fin de bouche, plus boisée, à le goût de pneumatiques à gogo, d'essence et de solvants. On termine avec quelques notes de salaisons viandées, d'olives et de saumure. Les 67% sont sidérants d'intégration. ⛳ Longue, intense, estérisée, réglissée à n'en plus finir, astringence du kaki et de carambole, amertume de la saumure d'olive, presque maritime, sur du poisson séché et salé. Amertume du chocolat extra noir aussi. Quelle finale ! N.B. : le lendemain, le verre vide sent l'asphalte chaud et le bœuf séché 😋 💡 Peu de concurrence en face dans ce millésime et ce mark diamond H. Équilibré, évolutif, vif tout en restant accessible, un must have, excellent représentant d'Hampden. Il me rappelle, dans une certaine mesure, le C<>H 2007 de Flensburg.

31-01-2026 - Rate 8.9 Got the third extra Hampden at unnamed tasting. Not at the same level as the first two but still really good. Nose of ester, tropical fruit, caramel and pineapple. Palate tropical fruits, pineapple, wood, ester, rubber and banana. Long finish dominated by tropical fruits, ester and wood.

... Hampden, legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you can feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums that "must try before die"

What a great drop! The nose is overwhelmingly complex, fruity, filled with ester, vanilla and some butterdough. The taste is the same and surprisingly sweet. I find it to be a little bit too astringent, thus preventing a 9.1 or 9.2 rating.

Very good Hampden, lots of fruit on the palate. Really want to do a second tasting. Lots of esters on the first nose, the fruit comes after opening. First kiss: pineapple, pineapple, pineapple. Palate focused on fruit, aggressive without being unpleasant. Coats the mouth. After the fruit, toasted then smoked wood.

A deep nose, controlled esters and plenty of fruit. An explosive mouthful of flavors and depth evolving with complexity. Tropical fruits and solvents mingle with meat, spices with a slight menthol and rubber at the end of the mouth. All intensely deep and delicious. I understand the enthusiasm it generates. A killer.

Quite a journey, both on the nose and in the mouth. We pass through a multitude of different aromatic phases like a rollercoaster, and each sip is different. The Hampden profile is clearly present, with great complexity. On the palate, we discover a kind of balsamic fruit vinegar that I've never tasted in other rums. A great success, and a value for money unmatched by other hampdens. It's easy to see why the bottle is no longer available. Thanks to Mika and Les Compagnons du Rhum for letting us taste it, and congratulations to Swell on this fine selection, which sets the tone for the quality of future bottlings.
