The nose promises something old and heavy — dark caramel, dried plums, spice, roasted nuts, a whiff of very old Armagnac — then the palate turns lighter than you expect. This is an aged Guadeloupe agricole, cognac-cask matured, dry and woody with brown sugar and stewed fruit underneath. Elegant and mature, but several tasters find it a touch thin and short at 44.4%.

Nose is intense and fruity - feels very rich and mature. On the palate things get a bit thin unfortunately with spices and wood dominating the party. Finish is quite short, yet with a bit to much bitterness for this elegant bottling.

Rather dry profile with a nice presence of vanilla and mocha. It reminds me of a coffee liqueur. The alcohol is not very well integrated but that's rather a good thing since it gives it a peppery side. A fine rum. Nevertheless, the selling price is exaggerated...

A cuvee made from red and blue sugar cane to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the distillery. Aged for eight months in stainless steel tanks, then matured for three years in 300-liter ex-cognac barrels. Amazingly fruity on the nose, with hints of apricot or peach, as well as wild flowers, vanilla and a little wood. Rather dry on the palate, wood and spices. Short, somewhat bitter finish.

Got a sample of this one yesterday and I placed an order for a bottle right away. A complex and well balanced release with fruity notes and lovely spices. The wood and dried fruits are balanced very well with the flavours of brown sugar. I can only recommend this rum if you like Longueteau. Price to quality is very good in my mind.

RumX-Adventskalender 23.12.2023 Blind tasting: When I smelled it, I thought: "Wow, this must be old, crass stuff!" When I tasted it, I was somewhat disillusioned: neither old nor crass, but thin and grassy. In other words, an Agricole. But since the new WDC (RX18006) has become my new benchmark when it comes to agricoles, this rhum has fallen short in my rating. Sorry, but it's nothing special in my eyes.

A Longueteau with a very pleasant woody profile. The nose is complex and balanced and inviting. Confirmed impression on the palate where the woody framework gives way to fruits and a very indulgent rum. Beautiful bottle.

Calendar #23 / blind Very roasty on the nose, dark burnt caramel, old wood and some anise. At the same time a certain freshness despite the noticeable age. Agricole and Martinique could fit, as well as the Armagnac comparison. On the palate also very spicy, but at the same time quite mild and dry. Again the caramel, ripe pear, some wood and slightly bitter notes (root). In the finish, licorice and cardamom appear. I like it, but in my impression it has slightly passed its zenith in the barrel.

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 23 On the nose a wonderful combination of spices and flowers. Potent and full. Clearly agricole, and definitely more floral than fruity. It opens with dried fruits, zest and subtle sugars before quite quickly turning to popped corn, roasted nuts and hay barn. These latter notes last throughout the entire experience before finishing in a bouquet of flowers. With agitation a rubbery note presents itself tying everything neatly together. A continuation of flavours on the palate. Dense, yet curiously complex. An espresso aftertaste is introduced that dials the bitterness up a notch. Or maybe even multiple notches. Pretty nice. However, there seems to be a theme among these ‘120 years’ of this and ‘240 years’ of that: overdilution. Again this product has been brought down too much (or too inefficiently). It’s not as bad as usual, but this should’ve been kept above 48 and it would have easily received mid 80’s. Despite the palate being too thin, the finish is still medium in length and quite potent: laurel and flowery, with a hint of rubber.

👃 sugarcane well present evolving into brown sugar then a slightly overcooked caramel. Beautiful wood, spices and some candied fruits. Roasting notes appear (coffee). A pleasant and classic nose even though I find the alcohol a bit too present for a 44.4% ABV. 👄 The alcohol seems better integrated on the palate than on the nose, surprising. The fruit brandy notes are close, a bit like an old plum/mirabelle. Kitchen spices (cinnamon, vanilla) accompany a still refined woodiness. I perceive crème brûlée dominated by a nice caramel. A good and beautiful old Guadeloupean agricole blend with insufficient value for money.

RumX Advent calendar 23.12.23: Hmm, I think we are back in Agricole land. This is clearer on the nose than on the palate, but I would clearly tend to Agricole. The rum makes a very old, settled impression, almost a bit like a very old Armagnac. The pronounced bitterness underlines that. The profile is overall noticeably too thin, combined with the mentioned flavor markers and a slight perfume note creates an overall profile that feels a bit unbalanced and unsatisfying. Certainly a high-quality, old rum, but it hardly grabs me. I could imagine either an old Guadeloupe (Gardel diluted, similar to Rockley recently?), but also an old Martinique rum (70s or 80s, e.g. La Thibault Courville). Surely spent considerable time in the barrel (>12 years). ABV <45%. Let's see...
