Hampden The Nectar Of The Daily Drams OWH 2012
"This one was disappointing. No Jamaican funk like you normally find in a Hampden," is a common reaction here. This 9-year OWH from The Nectar leans smoky and tobacco-heavy, with dried fruit, black tea and only a faint hint of banana and tropical fruit. Several tasters swear it tastes like a peated whisky, not a classic ester bomb. Cask strength, but the alcohol sits well.
The community says- Alcohol well integrated
- Smoky, whisky-like
- But: Lacks Hampden funk

This one was disappointing. No Jamaican funk like you normally find in a Hampden.

What's going on here? Even though OWH does not promise a high ester, there is hardly anything recognizable of the classic Hampden here - smoke that evokes associations of a whiskey finish, plus vegetal notes, hidden tropical fruits and some syrupy, heavy sweetness. On a positive note, the alcohol is excellently integrated. Nevertheless, I can do with the flavor mixture offered here times so nothing.

Gateway rum for serious whisky drinkers in my personal experience. Not what you would expect from a Hampden as a rum nerd, but you have to consider that it’s OWH and in that regard no ester-y fruit bomb. If you give it an honest chance, you might find that it’s not too bad after all.

Strange! The rum must clearly have been in a whiskey barrel. Strangely, I read nothing about a finish.

Unspectacular. Could be an OWH, who expects Hampden and Ester is wrong here. Something different than the fruit basket full of funk that you usually get from Hampden. A bit sharp on the nose, but otherwise quite varied. However, I expected more, is also not cheap. Nevertheless, not a bad bottling.

... Hampden, legendarni jamajska destilerka, ktera krome rumu produkuje take alkohol do parfemu. Ve vsech rumech z teto destilerky ucitite divoke estery, po kterych cely vas organizmus nasakne vuni zluteho tropickeho ovoce - manga, papaji, anansu, broskvi. Jeden z rumu, ktere "must try before die"

Recognizable Low Ester Hampden. The nose was initially very pungent and a bit harsh but gets better. On the palate an easy sipper. Alcohol, as often described, very well integrated. I find it ok. Can be drunk well. However, I like my LFCH much better. Edit: When poured a second time, it falls off again somewhat. Especially in direct comparison.

Review by Jindrich Strobl
Nice Jamaican nose with all the freshness and citrus notes with some esther background. Taste a bit heavy and bold but with nice notes.

Hutny vzorek, spousta ovoce, cerny caj, na me az mozns moc vyrazny
Review by ElReyTristan
Review by itay
A nice drink, but not a regular hampden. I guess it's aged in a ex-smokey whisky cask, since there's a definite smoke, that resembles and end if a cigar, with maybe a tiny bit rum feel to it.
