02-03-2024 Tasted at Whiskymessen.dk Seventh rum was another Caroni. This one could not quite keep up with Dirty Harry. Not saying it’s bad at all. Nose not that different between the two of them. But not tha same taste. Slight more wood in this one and less tar.

Beautiful nose, very balanced, intense wood maturity and spice, some coconut gives a Spanish impact. Beautiful, fat caramel notes.Then very, very woody in the mouth. Mega spicy (juniper, maggi, licorice) and bitter. Long finish.You have to like the brute load of wood and spices. I personally like it a lot. The highlight is certainly the nose.

On the nose, more artificial and inconspicuous than the other two in the series, but on the palate, the rum convinces me more. It reminds me here because of the taste of a spicy (red) needle extract strangely reminiscent of the recently released WP of RA - and I liked it very much against the current.In short: The palate pulls out the weakness of the nose again and therefore the rum gets from me just like the other two of the series 90 points.

A special release from Velier, however its probably not their best Caroni. In saying that, its high praise indeed as it's still a full blown tropical aged 25 year old beast from THAT now closed distillery! You can tell its DNA, ashpelt and rubber, and there is a nice sweetness to it as well. Lots of wood which is probaly why I am getting a slight bitter note? Spicy.

Ve srovnání s ostatními Caroni zaměstnanci 6. řady o něco slabší. Vůně i po hodině ve sklenici relativně nevýrazná, chuť to napravuje, hodně lékořice a mentolu, pečené tóny. Vzorek na vyzkoušení skvělý, láhev na pití ne.

Solid heavy 1996 Caroni that ticks all the boxes. Balance of heavy industrial notes, wood and slight fruits/sweetness. Some strange bitterness/herbal(?) notes that keep it from a higher score.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Has a surprising nuance of fruit esters, but of course the Caroni style remains unmistakable. High level, but no longer a 96 top class.

Eher untypischer Caroni mit wenig schmutzigen Noten. Frucht und Süße sind kaum vorhanden. Dafür eher Gewürze, Holz und kräuterige Noten. Gefällt mir im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Caronis von Velier nur mittelmäßig.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.
