Clarendon Plantation Jamaica (LMDW) MMW 1994
Here's the surprise: at 65.4% this old Clarendon drinks far gentler than the number suggests, with the alcohol so well tucked in that several tasters called it almost sippable. Expect tropical fruit, glue and a clear menthol streak over dried apricot, dark chocolate and spice. Give it 30 minutes and the wood settles. A few felt the cask pushes a touch too hard.

Edit thanks to SaibotZtar was able to try again and corrected upwards Wow, another nice Plantation bottling. If they want to, they can 😅 Really nice Clarendon, but unfortunately it doesn't come close to the 1995 bottlings, especially the FineDrams. Still very good.

varied, complex, great alcoholic integration. It does control the acidity, so does bring out the flavor. contains enough flavor, and the alcohol is very weak for this abv, it's well controlled, and the finish is particularly nice, very long. After a long time in the glass, the layers of aroma become more clear and rich, showing strong spice and floral notes. The brown/slightly burnt sugar is wonderful. similar to '84 mmw(s). It's better to add a few drops to get this greediness. A relatively light, bouncy for 65.4% abv.

Great bottling with the almost typical menthol note, which brings depth to the otherwise of fruit esters, wood influence, spice, vanilla and subtle caramel sweetness marked flavor profile. In direct comparison with the 95 Clarendon but clearly in the rear, because the alcohol here most clearly appears.
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Initially hardly any aromas on the nose, only slight alcohol vapors. Later, after 30 minutes, the alcohol presence has evaporated, leaving the warm smell of a rum that has been stored for a long time in the nose. Not convincing on the palate at first, too bitter, not enough menthol (for me), alcohol too intrusive. And again, it only becomes rounder and more accessible after 30 minutes, like a grandfather's reassuring, warm hand on a baby's tummy. Can almost catch up with the 1995 Clarendons. But only almost. Nevertheless, a very good bottling.

Wow, this rum is fun. Lots of tropical fruit, menthol and glue. Pleasantly astringent on the palate with very well integrated alcohol. I like it very much!
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Surprisingly round and almost sweet! Alcohol is perfectly integrated and the finish is almost eternal.here neat menthol and glue meets tropical, strongly fermented fruit, plus some grape jelly, dark chocolate and candied spicy ginger. the so typical for so old clafendons meaty umami note is also present but here fortunately rather in the background. This one is fun and I really like it! I would definitely prefer the 95 RA Clarendon.

I like the nose best, nicely fruity with menthol and glue. On the palate, the barrel dominates too much for me, the classic facets of Clarendon are still present but can't really assert themselves against the barrel influence! The alcohol is also very present and needs a lot of time in the glass.
Review by Mirco
Lies incredibly close, offers tropical fruits, spice and solvent notes, accompanied by tobacco and dark chocolate. Despite 69% volume, the profile is surprisingly balanced and deep. The finish is long, spicy and dry. A statement rum that shows what stylish old school Jamaica flavor can do.
Review by Leo Krüper
Old, heavy, strong. Might come better with less % and 2 years less aging. The Cognac finish also seems unnecessary.

9:On the nose, medicinal with glue, esters, menthol hints, minty, flowery molasses, thick, roasted wood notes like caramel, chocolate, pastry, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and mango, orange, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, burnt sugar, biscuits are out, spicy vanilla, allspice, umami, some smokiness and vegetal notes like tomatoes, basil, thyme, olive. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is quite intense, industrial, slightly dirty with petrol, menthol, glue, quickly fruits take over with overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, papaya, red and dried fruits like apricots, grapes and orange, molasses is flowery, fresh, minty, grassy, herbaceous, vegetal with briny olive and the wood is roasted with chocolate, roasted nuts, spicy with allspice. 9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with toasted oak notes like nuts, leather, pastry, spicy with allspice, caramelized, sweet, ginger and umami, smoky, fruity with banana, citrus, grapes and dried fruits, molasses is fresh, grassy, minty.

Impressive nose right after pouring, lots of tropical fruit and esters, well balanced with sweetness, spice, and wood. Alcohol is very discreet. Great similarity with 95er and 97er Clarendons. On the palate, the alcohol is clearly noticeable but also carries a lot of aromas. The second sip is milder but still powerful. The rum lingers long, becomes dry, a nice mix of overripe fruits and tannins. Excellent old Clarendon. The rum offers a lot and deserves time to enjoy.
Review by Chrischi78
For me, the nose is the highlight – nicely fruity, with a clear menthol note and a hint of glue, just like you love with Clarendon. On the palate, however, the cask is very dominant, pushing the typical Clarendon characteristics somewhat into the background. The alcohol is also clearly noticeable and needs a lot of time and calm in the glass to integrate. Big thanks to saibotzar for the chance to taste this exciting drop in a split!

Nice selection from LMDW. Quite funky rum with loads of fruits very well balanced with some round notes of caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Great rum !

Then a Clarendon, top politician. Also has a typical Jamaican character. Tropical fruits like banana and ester. Well, and then mainly menthol on the palate. Always something new, otherwise slightly woody, as well as overripe tropical fruits.
Review by Serge
Delicious Clarendon with plenty of tropical maturation. Not unlike the 95 or 97 EMB batches – just not quite at their level. With overripe tropical fruits (guava, papaya, mango, banana), menthol, spice glue and plenty of wood.
Review by Basti
On the nose a lot of glue and solvent, even after long standing. Also something fermented, dried fruits and spices. On the palate very intense and many bitter substances. For me a bit too much. A few years less in the barrel would probably have been good. Still a good bottling.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Well integrated alcohol and a round rum. The first time I did not like it so much. But it is a great thing. Nice flavors and lots of depth. Horny MM
Review by Johannes
It goes very much in the direction of the 1995 vintage with the typical menthol note. Alcohol is very well integrated!
Review by Rodolphe
I finished this bottle a long time ago but only take the time to note it today. I love old tropical Clarendons and this one is really one of my favorites. Power, complexity, fruit, elegant woodiness. The marriage of esters and cognac cask always works. In short, a superb bottle.
Review by TheJackDrop
A grand cru! A rather simple nose but very open on exotic fruits, esters and glue. On the palate lots of umami flavors, fruity, a pinch of spices, nuts, nutmeg... the finish holds, the alcohol is ultra well integrated. 100% pleasure!
Review by Michal S
Very interesting rum, unusual Jamaica both in the nose (honey, flowers) and in the taste (menthol). Definitely try a sample.

Plantation Jamaica 1994 Clarendon MMW Conquête 65.4%, 354 bottles: I would have thought the nose a bit more aggressive, but it is fine and subtle, with orange and rose. After 45 minutes of airing, it reveals itself more powerful and spicier. On the palate, the attack is necessarily frank, but - I caught myself thinking wow in my head - there is immediately a tarry and menthol wave. And I really like that. I had a little prejudice, I thought I would be disappointed at this price, I don't say the price is justified, but I am pleasantly surprised, it's really good. It's also oily, the alcohol is well integrated, the 65.4% goes down well. The finish is logically long and smooth, but you quickly want another little sip. Plantation confirms once again that they have very good MMW.
Review by Buddudharma
Nice Clarendon with lots of tropical aging and well-integrated alcohol. Overall, however, I prefer the 95 and 97 EMBs due to their greater aromatic depth and complexity over this MMW.
