Great drop with lots of flavor for the money. It's creamy, harmonious, and also complex. More on the spicy side. Funk comes with plastic, rubber on the finish. Also good with water. It seems older than the 5 years. The rum still has a very good price-performance ratio.

...Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can sense wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Stands out extremely positively in a direct comparison of the two2016 Hampdens, which were released under the aegis of Velier. Clearly more harmonious and with far better integration of the alcohol.

Very tasty! Great nose, in the first moment when you take a sip it has briefly a somehow unpleasant mouthfeel. However, this fades very quickly, then spreads a great flavor palette in the mouth! The rum develops from rather acidic ester notes to a sweetish pear with a slight eucalyptus note.

Somehow it feels like it has more than just 5 years under its belt. Very rounded on the nose, with lots of nuances to discover: fermented and candied fruits, pear, smoked bacon, olive, butter croissant. On the palate smoky, mirabelle plums, pear, candied fruits, and brine.

Cross-tasting with RX27 & RX11980 I have to raise my initial rating significantly. In direct comparison, better than the new Hampden HLCF Classic 2017, but still a corner behind the Velier HLCF 2010

What I like about this rum is how well the ABV has been integrated. A very well balanced rum indeed. The price is stiil up among the others though. The nose is fruity with ester, waxes, honey, chocolate and vanilla. The palate is warm, complex and extremely well balanced with fruits, honey, sugarcane, chocolate and vanilla as well as a nice smoky touch. The finish is long and warm with pineapple, vanilla and again that lovely smoky note.

So, now I'm finally trying it. Thanks SaibotZtar for the split 👌 The rum is relatively young. It stands out qualitatively clearly from the HLCF Classic... but on the other hand only enough to understand why it was put in a bottle with a cool photo on it. That makes it look way better 🤣 Conclusion: Good, but overpriced. My sweet spot would probably be 3-5 more tropical years. I like the nose much better and more mature than the palate.

Rum Friendly Club, advent calendar, day 17. Very Hampden on the nose, esters and tropical fruits, pineapple. A touch of furniture polish and banana. The palate is rich but not aggressive, esterified yet smooth. A little smoky and green pear note join the nose flavors. On the finish, the pineapple is still very present, alongside pear and a light smokiness. A surprisingly pleasant rum despite being only five years old.

A Hampden with a typical and controlled profile. The nose hits with esters and ripe tropical fruits, but then offers beautiful pastry notes, buttery and candied fruits. The palate is intense and striking with exotic fruits, a hint of olive, and especially a smoky and meaty flavor that gives character to the rum. The finish is quite long and continues on the same smoky and exotic fruit theme. The alcohol is very well integrated. A solid Hampden for its young age statement.

An amazing Hampden! Found it at my favorite bar in Copenhagen. The first thing I find that hits the nose is banana and chocolate. I got notes of fresh fruits, cocoa, citrus and vanilla. Very interesting Jamaican rum to me

What you expect from a Hampden of this age and alcohol strength. The first nose is on pineapple, olive, and a hint of smoke. With opening up, you find a gourmand note that reminds me of poached pear. On the palate, it's rich and fruity. The finish is relatively long and dry, with spices and smoke. Overall, a great success. Better than the Habitation Velier H in my opinion.

Alcohol bites a bit at the start. Needs some time in the glass. Otherwise a nice tropical aged HLCF. Brings quite a bit of acidity, some wood, marzipan and nice fruity notes. It's good, but doesn't come close to the Velier HLCF from the Habitation series.

A HLFC as it is written in the book, the expected happened and it delivered well. One has to say that due to its young age it still has a few rough edges, which personally don't bother me but rather appeal here. But considering the price, it's not necessarily what I need.

Sampled at the 2024 Rum Love Festival in Wroclaw. The alcohol is smoothly integrated. It leans more toward a collector's item. Nose of esters, tropical fruits and vanilla. Palate and finish echo fruits, vanilla, and smoke.

On the nose still just high ester, this is a very round and beautiful Hampden, alcohol wonderfully integrated. Too bad that because of the price and the great photos it mostly just collects dust in collectors' corners.

Hampden Time: Typical High Ester Hampden profile with grilled pineapple, candied fruit, etc. Its youth is noticeable, as is the alcohol and a few edges. Ultimately a solid Hampden, no more, no less. In terms of availability and price, more of a "not" than a "less". There are better Hampdens for the money.

A very smooth, well-balanced HD that is quite complex for only four years in the cask. For a classic Velier, this one has a surprisingly smoky note from nose to finish. In the end, though, it stays just in the background.
