Olive, cucumber and fresh-cut grass lead here, over lime, faint glue and a savory herbal-root edge. It's an unaged pot-still cane rum from Grenada at a firm 50%, and members call it "an acquired taste" — the nose promises fruit that the palate trades for vegetal, medicinal depth. Bought a bottle of this rum to a really good price from Catawiki. This is my first, but hopefully not my last, Renegade Pre Cask Single Farm Origin rum. Renegade bottles its Pre-Cask rums farm by farm and terroir by terroir. The Defermline is released as two different distillations, column an pot still. It would have been very interesting to taste them side by side. The cane used is Lacolme Red grown at the Mango Land on the Anderson’s field which was a part of an distillery closed down after the hurricane Ivan 2004. The finish is quite long and goes on as in mouth and palate. Overall a very good and distinct rum with some similarities with Rhum Blanc from Guadeloupe.

07.10.2026 Still a very decent Renegade. ------ RETASTING ------ 18.02.2023 Relaxing at home with some samples. Colour Transparent. Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, light citrus, light earthy, faint floral, light glue, faint coconut. Palate Fresh, medium intense, light mineral, faint floral, fruits, light citrus, nutts, light glue, medium spicy. Finish Round, oily, warm, fruits, light citrus, light mineral, nutts, faint glue, medium spicy. As with so many other Renegade, this is an acquired taste 😊

3rd and 4th sample of the pre-cask project. Pot Still vs Column Still.Nose: more fermented fruit here, more honey, similar to the old Bakolet. Vinegar and sloe.Palate: the fruitiness completely recedes, giving way to something very rooty and herbal. Crass, how different from the others that is.

After Nursery, this rum seems quite unremarkable to me. Maybe the nutmeg stands out the most in the end. So I don't know if my senses are overloaded by the previous sample, but this one is too mild for my taste and quite bitter for me in the finish again.

Ripe fruit nose (green apple, loquat), oregano, eucalyptus, medicinal and even some mild fermented. On the palate herbaceous/vegetal (oregano, cucumber) and balsamic at the same time, with delicate notes of medicinal, fragrant flowers and a hint of pepper. The finish also has some earthy notes, but the medicinal/balsamic ones are prevalent. In the empty fermented glass.

Fresh, vegetal nose. We find lime, but above all fermented/medicinal notes. Olive concludes this promising nose. The attack on the palate is thick and creamy, again with vegetal notes. Quite in keeping with the nose, it's the olive that continues its momentum. The finish, on the other hand, is too short and a little disappointing on honey. I find this 1st contact with this terroir rather promising, but I'm still disappointed by the lack of length on the finish, which leaves a taste of unfinished business. Thanks Jordan for the sample!

The fruit notes still perceived on the nose are no longer present on the palate. I really like it on the nose, but the fruit note is clearly missing in taste.

Nose typically clear Agricole, grassy notes, smells good, with time more complex notes develop; tongue very strong start, slightly spicy but not unpleasant, then comes and stays but not enough for me, too bad, the smell promised more...
