Missing fruity components, but it still works. It does not, however, work well with more than a few drops of water added.

Nose: the first sniff is pure alcohol, then it gradually opens up…light hints of sugar, kinda of cotton candy. Then a fresh note slowly develops in the glass…adding a couple of water drops release notes of spice and dried fruits (almond or hazelnut). Also I get apples… Mouth: wow, what a twist…vanilla, salty caramel, spices that make your tongue tingle a little bit, possibly wood from the barrel.

Very solid rum, has reminded me very strongly from the Balcones Texas Rum.

Day 4 in the RumX Advent calendar, blind. My first impression told me "Spanish style", after smelling something perhaps Barbados, since quite some glue. Then a strong coconut note that does not let me go, along with baked banana in honey. On the palate then strong spicy, but also somewhat alcoholic. Again, mainly coconut, a bit peirisich and apricot with some spice, maybe some marzipan and anise. Based on the coconut note, I guessed Belize. Medium aged (8-10 years) and about 57%. At least one of them was right. Exciting rum, which I otherwise probably would not have tried. Always something new, Privateer should perhaps not be completely forgotten.

RumX Advent Calendar day 4. In the nose I would have guessed it to be from Barbados, a lot of coconut, vanilla and bourbon like notes, reminds me of Foursquare to be honest. Same sensations in the mouth, but of wood but definitely not a lot. Alcohol could have been integrated better. So it appears to be Privateer. I was excited (first time tasting Privateer) and a bit let down at the same time. I’ve come across the name so many times in rum groups and there are so many people recommending it. But you’re better off with a decent Foursquare to be honest.

RumX Advent Calendar Day 4. Unfortunately, I have spoiled myself. 🙄But I would not have guessed it either. Here smell and taste are really different. In the nose sweet notes, while on the palate then rather a dry, slightly resinous note prevails. Vanilla I have throughout. Exciting story!

#4 RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: Vanilla, sweet, trop. fruits, a lot of cocconut. M: spicy, caramel, roasted F: oak, vanilla, caramel Prediction: sound like a rum from barbados maybe FS, approx. 60%…. totally wrong 🙈 Alcohol could be integrated better. Nose: trop. fruity, a lot of cocconut, pineapple, caramel, honey, vanilla and spicy Mouth: Dry, strong, bitter and thin; notes of caramel, vanilla, roasted, cocconut, milk chocolate and a lot of spice Finish: dry, astringend, oak, caramel, vanilla

RumX Advent Calendar. Dec. 4, blind. First impression on the nose: Spanish style, then this intense coconut scent. But rather Barbados? In the end, I guessed Belize. Estimated at 57%. But something new again... Nose: Totally coconut, coconut butter, but also a mix of mango and passion fruit with slight acidity. Also has something of baked banana with honey. Slightly spicy with vanilla and white pepper and a hint of tobacco at the back. Palate: bold and fruity, slightly bitter with apricot and coconut, a bit woody but not distracting. Slightly metallic in the middle, like copper. Spicy at the end with anise, vanilla. Not bad at all, especially for the young age. Worth a look there...

Nachzügler aus dem RX-Adventskalender. An Nase und Gaumen dominieren Holz- und Röstnoten. Vanille und eine gewisse Süße (Konfekt/Karamell). Leider wars das dann auch schon. Für ein „sehr gut“ fehlt die Komplexität. Erinnert an spanische Vertreter. Die 57% ABV sind gut eingebunden.

Tag 4 RumX Adventskalender: In der Nase ging der erste Gedanke direkt nach Barbados. Am Gaumen dann erst mal alkoholisch und stechend. Muss also was junges sein. Insgesamt nicht schlecht.

a bit rounder and sweeter than the Velier 2017, is probably due to the aging in ex-rum barrels (vs. virgin oak), but still, also here the unmistakable, impetuous, resinous (after sawmill). I am curious about longer matured Privateers....

12/4/21 RumX Advent Calendar: Blind I was in Central America. Pleasant Spanish influences, some earthy notes, runs.... My first rum from this distillery. Not a highlight but a good product.

I like dark chocolate and not milk chocolate. In addition, there is an unpleasant caramel sweetness from the barrel. Unfortunately, not my rum. However, the alcohol is quite well integrated.
