Spring Spirits Caroni Trinidad Rum 1998
Sip it slowly with a few drops of water — that's when this old Caroni really opens up. Rubber, tar and menthol lead the way, backed by smoky oak, licorice and a run of dried fruit: raisin, peach, dried apricot. At 56.8% it's oily and full in the mouth, with a long, dry, tannic finish. Classic dirty Caroni, and members rate it right up with the famous Velier bottlings.

Excellent, continental Caroni

This bottle is not cheap, yet well worth a try. I got a sample and I have to say its the odd one out, but very good because of the overall balance. Rest it for a good while and also give it a try with some water, because it will release a lot of flavours if you do. The nose has smoky wood as well as tar, menthol and earthy notes once rested. Trailing behind i can find raisin and licorice. The palate sets off with smoky wood, tar and fruits trailed by rubber, mint, chocolate and light herbal notes. The finish is very long with wood, fruits and a hint of tobacco.

9,2:On the nose, medicinal, industrial with menthol, rubber, tar, vegetal molasses with pencil shavings, black tea, fruits like cherry, peaches, dried apricots, raisins, roasted wood notes like chocolate, caramel, warm, spicy, balanced, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is slightly flowery, herbaceous, earthy with tobacco, sweet with hints of honey, dried figs arise, some mace, roasted nuts, smokiness. 9:On the palate, the attack is industrial, medicinal with rubber, tar, some menthol, roasted wood notes like chocolate, caramel, nuts, brown sugar, smoky, spicy with umami, oak barrel notes are stronger, molasses is herbaceous, slightly minty and fruits dried, lemon and pineapple. 9,1:The finish is long, dry&tannic, slightly dirty, industrial with rubber, bicycle tube, roasted oak notes like nuts, leather, fruity with dried, citrus fruits and dark molasses with licorice, black tea, earthy with tobacco.

Very nice representative with continental maturation. Doesn't need to hide in the cross-tasting to the 12, 15, 17 and 21 year old velierabfullungen. Great rum.

Gummi-Klebstoffnoten, würzig, ledrig, fruchtig (Pfirsich), Karamell. Modrig und erdig. Vollmundig, ölig im Mund. Zuerst guter Abgang, bevor das nasse Laub zuschlägt. Insgesamt mäßiger Caroni mit mäßigem Genuss gekostet. Was noch immer ein sehr guter Rum ist. 😀

This is an example for the overhyped Velier Caronis! Yes, you are correct, it’s not a Velier, but it’s on the same level then the top Velier Caronis at a fraction of a Paradise but as good if not better! Really on the havy and dirty side, with the rubber and tar, wood, dried fruits, very balanced but all flavors really present, quite a powerhouse! I fully agree with the high rating.
