Don't expect a bone-dry sipper here — this leans firmly sweet, with honey, raisin and ripe banana up front and a roasting note underneath. Several tasters catch a genuine spicy kick in the finish (chilli, ginger, pepper) that keeps it from being flat sugar. But a few find the sweetness artificial, closer to gummy-banana candy than rum.

Like most of the Riise range this rum is also kind of sweet. The first release of three XO Founders Reserve. Not a bad rum parse but I would have loved more kick with a higher ABV. Fruity and vegetal with a roasting note to it.

Old St. Croix is the current name of the Danish rum house that traded as A.H. Riise until June 2025. Both names point back to the same man: Albert Heinrich Riise, a pharmacist who settled in the Danish West Indies in 1838 and exported his rum under the Old St. Croix label. The house style is soft and dessert-leaning, built on sweetened blends rather than dry spirit, and it splits opinion in the community more than almost any other brand on RumX.
