The Duchess Hampden Jamaica 13 (Great House) C<>H 2007

8.6/10
Rated by crazyforgoodbooze, Leo Krüper & 66 more

What catches people off guard here is the acidity — a sharp citrus and lime zest lift sitting on top of the classic Hampden C<>H load of overripe pineapple, glue and ester funk. There's a creamy, buttery, vanilla-pudding side too, with marzipan in the empty glass. At 66.1% the alcohol is genuinely well buried. Several tasters rank it just under their favorite continental 2007s, but no one calls it dull.

  • Overripe pineapple
  • Glue and funk
  • Alcohol well integrated

How does The Duchess Hampden Jamaica 13 (Great House) C<>H 2007 taste?

Aggregated from 68 community reviews.

Sharp, fruity high-ester Hampden at cask strength A clean, fruit-and-glue Hampden that drinkers consistently enjoy. The heat is well integrated for the proof; the only knock is it lacks the finesse to top the best 2007 C<>H bottlings people compare it against.

Perfect for

Fans of high-ester Hampden funk and overripe tropical fruit

Less suitable for

Beginners and anyone put off by glue, acidity and high proof

Absolute board with a hammer UVP! Incredibly beautiful nose of vanilla custard, tropical fruit salad, especially pineapple and honeydew melon, glue and a little cream caramel and lemon zest. The taste is also insanely deliciously sweet and fruity with lemon curd, coffee beans/cappuccino, pineapple chutney, tropical fruit and plenty of glue. This thing is really fun and the alcohol is perfectly integrated! Fuck the "standard" great house series, this is the real shit going on! 🤣🤤🥂🇯🇲💥💣 I would have really liked a bottle for special occasions!

Great 2007 HD Reminds me of the green 2020 Great House and in a positive sense. Lots of yellow fruit, lemon scent, ester is still within limits. Alcohol super integrated for the high %. Great PLV and beautiful bottle design. I'd love a bottle of this. In direct comparison with the sister version 66.9%, I like it much better.

Very tasty... beautifully fruity and powerful... The full fruit basket paired with glue, marzipan and papaya. Simply awesome! PLV was also super fair here 👍 Unfortunately my stock is running low 😩 which makes me a little sad. In May Tai also a fruity grenade.

A very expressive yet well-balanced nose, with a lactic, toffee-like ferment that softens the rather lively esters. On the palate, it's much less expressive, with the wood still present and a lactic edge. Then the aromas become more assertive, pineapple and esters. The finish is shorter than expected, on slightly bitter wood. I much preferred its brother, RX10462, for its overall complexity and delicious finish.

Nose: a hint less acidity and more cask and marzipan notes vs. The Duchess sister cask. Palate: less adstringent than its sister / good balance of chemical and fruity notes

Great Hampden, has a lot of tropical fruit on the nose and palate, especially banana and pineapple. Esters are also recognizable, but not too pronounced. Also a bit sticky on the palate. Very tasty Hampden.
